This morning I wasn't sure if I would be better off shopping at Walmart or Meijer. So, I decided to go to Meijer. When I got to the store I was greeted immediately with a smile and asked if I needed help with anything. Didn't need the help but the offer was much appreciated. I was surprised by everything they have to offer, especially since the prices were decent and not over priced. Upon my exit, I was asked by a customer service representative if I would like my water scanned while I check out my items (I was at the self check out aisle) when she scanned them she went on her way to help other customers. When I wasnt looking I noticed she was packing my groceries for me and then noticed I picked up a bad bag of potatoes. She permitted me to grab a new bag and when I came back she had cleaned the station I was at as well as check to make sure none of my groceries had any nasty smell to them from the potatoes. I was very grateful for the thoroughness of the employees at Meijer. They even put the icing on the cake with my experience when while I was leaving the store an employee was running and shouting "Ma'am!! Wait!!!" another customer was trying to buy something but wouldn't work and the employee fixed it and ran back to give the item back to the customer. It was a singing birthday card and was the only one in stock. She was very happy to have the card work. So for Meijer staff to be this patient with customers and go above and beyond even for a small task like a birthday card, they stand very well for me in my book.
I really recommend Meijer in...
Read moreI went to Meijer to grab some supplies for my stay as I'm here for work from out of state. I wanted a couple puzzles and some food stuff I forgot. One of the puzzles wouldn't scan and the ladies at the self checkout not only refused to sell it to me but they sent me back to the other side of the store to take a picture of the barcode where the product was. She told me she'd watch my stuff if I went so I did even though I was exhausted its about 10pm and I've been up since about 5 for work I just wanted to do my transaction and go home, anyways I Walk dead to the other side of the store and when I get back she said that actually she couldn't if the barcode isn't in the system they can't sell it or she'd lose her job. The thing is last week at my local Meijer the Blackberrys got sent with a different barcode so they weren't scanning and the attendant came over and manually entered the price no problem. Actually I've had several similar experiences of items not scanning (as I am a shipt shopper I'll go through check out and have as many as 5 to 10 transactions a day so i run into more problems than the average joe). I've never been treated so poorly by the register attendants. They made me feel like a fool and like I just wasted a bunch of time, what for their amusement? If they weren't gonna sell it to me, I would have appreciated just being told that directly, not sent me on a wild goose chase. As much as I love the familarity of meijers I'll probably avoid this one the remainder of my stay here because of the disrespectful manner of...
Read moreFor food they have a decent produce selection, and are pretty well rounded out from what I have seen in most other areas. Their deli is well stocked and Meijer keeps plenty of options for most dietary needs or ranges of selection on hand. That said their 'World food's' aisle, the ethnic foods, could use a bit more variety both in regions and varieties represented, but for only having one aisle to work with the space was well used.
For the rest of the shopping, I have not really been into the pet or children's clothing departments but the selection of beauty, auto, office, gaming, and most other categories of products are fairly diverse and well organized. On another note, the store also remains fairly clean and well represented after I believe almost a year and a half open (as I write this), which is always a plus.
Meijer does also run a fair amount of sales and specials each week, and their rewards card is actually useful if you frequent the store(s). Also, from what I have experienced the staff is rather friendly and helpful. Not to mention that the store does have some of the harder to find, outside of their normal environment, items. Items such as bricks of dry ice, a full variety Coke ™ machine (you know the ones), and a rather extensive selection of alcohol.
TLDR: Well sorted selection, with (admittedly) a few blind spots, decent customer care, and some of the perks looked for in a store of this variety.
If I am being honest, Meijer probably should get 5 stars by normal rating, but it takes a lot to get...
