I have mixed feelings about this place. I am a perfume collector, as in I have an entire wall in my powder room dedicated to my beloved bottles. Smelling good is like my personal brand. I enjoy niche perfumery and have several expensive bottles that if I told the average person how much they cost they wouldn’t understand. That being said I was very excited to visit the store in the hopes of discovering something new and exciting. I came to the store on a random weekday after dropping my child off at daycare and before going to the gym, so I wasn’t dressed the way I usually do when going to these kinds of places. I am a young black woman, a kept woman who doesn’t have to work. Unfortunately when going to certain establishments I have to go out of my way to dress a certain way to be treated with respect. When I walked into the store I was initially ignored, the sales woman was aloof, annoyed even to assist me. I touched nothing and asked to smell around 4 very specific perfumes that I had done research on before hand, and it was as if she sprayed each one very reluctantly. The whole interaction was rushed and she was cold and abrasive. It wasn’t until i started discussing the notes of the perfumes, the nose behind them, and compared them to other very expensive ones that I have that she realized that I was knowledgeable and began to warm up a little. I had every intention to go in there and treat myself, I likely would have spent upwards of $1,000 easily but I hated the fact that I had to “qualify” myself in order to offer this business my money. The whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth so I begrudgingly left with nothing. It’s a shame, I could’ve been a great repeat customer. I love the concept of the business and I genuinely hope that it thrives to build a bigger community of perfume enthusiasts like myself but I doubt that I will return. I am the kind of person who will blind buy $300+ bottles of perfume because samples are never enough and I hate having to endure these kind of interactions more than I hate wasting money on scents that aren’t “loves”. Hopefully you have better luck,...
Read moreI had been looking forward to going here for awhile now and finally had the opportunity to go. Upon arrival, I felt immense coldness from the owner. He was extremely dry. Firstly, his dog came to sniff me and, as someone who has pet allergies, I politely told him I didn’t really like dogs in hopes he’d at least direct his dog to the other side of the store. I am not unsettled that his dog was there, but you must be cognizant that not everyone likes dogs or that an individual may have allergies when your dog goes to sniff them. Instead of appropriately saying “I apologize let me guide her over here so that she won’t sniff you” he states inconsiderately with a boorish tone, “Well I mean she’s going to be here. I means she sweet so like….what” As if her being “sweet” is relevant to the matter at hand. I then stated I wanted to look around, he got an attitude and said “Well it’s my store I HAVE to help you.” His tone was pure annoyance as I restated that I didn’t really know what I wanted to smell. He then says, “You can’t just walk around and look. These are curated fragrances.” I then asked, “I can’t just let you know which ones I want to smell after I walk around?” He goes, “No, this is my shop.” At this point I was completely turned off by his tone and coldness. He showed me a few fragrances that I didn’t ask to see. The entire time he talked he was very coarse and would take these deep sighs as if he didn’t even want to be there. It seemed as though my presence was unwanted quite frankly. The store was beautiful but the owner was completely crass. He needs to hire someone who is capable of being friendly and empathetic to potential customers seeing that he is not. Another reviewer said he was rude and I now agree with them. Unless you are hard up on niche fragrances, find a...
Read moreI went here with my ex wife, on my way to the airport, I believe it as Mr. Todd that came and helped us, his dog was in there, adorable friendly dog, she will bring you her turtle and melt your heart. The owner mentioned the design of the store is to mimic a living room and After spending a couple hours in perfumania and the fragrance outlet yesterday, being assaulted with Michael malul fragrances, i absolutely felt at home there. His intimate familiarity of the fragrances he's selling is refreshing , I've spent hours and hours in shops that have thousands of fragrances telling the employees or owners what kind of fragrances/notes /vibes I was into only to have fragrance after fragrance with little to no relation to what I mentioned brought to me, I don't believe today I was given a fragrance to sample I didn't honestly love and consider buying, seriously. He knew exactly where to go and which one to grab. His selection of niche is eclectic and impressive.
There are businesses/owners/staff/products that make such an impression on you that regardless whether or not you could get it cheaper from Somewhere else you keep your money going to these people because you believe in what they do, people like Mr. Todd deserve to thrive, stores like his deserve to stay open, people should be able to persue their passions and be successful at it and after today I will be spending my money with him at his shop regardless if I can get it cheaper, because I recognize his dedication, commitment and passion for the olfactory arts and Perfumery as a whole.
I missed my flight today but I regret nothing. Thank you Joseph and it's possible I may be in tomorrow...
