Ok so this is a bit of constructive criticism rather then a bad review, I walked in with my mother at 4:42 on 12-21-23 after a long day of Christmas shopping I wanted to look in GameStop for myself and I was very happy to find a WiiU legend of Zelda twilight Princess for my collection I've been looking for a while now and to see the decent price for $59 I jumped on it. The two customer services GSA's 1 named Franco and the other manager started off polite through very unknowledgeable on video games even for GameStop standards couldn't understand why a WiiU game was so much money so I educated him on it.
Now because I purchased an Nintendo title, they even gave me a couple of promotional items which I thought was fine & I appreciated that. As I was checking out I had mentioned that I can't find this WiiU game anywhere & I'm from the tri-state NY/NJ area and they just don't have it and plus I even own my own video game store and I don't have this WiiU game myself.
Now I'm not sure exactly at what point during the conversation it went sour, but all of a sudden my mother to the right of me got very very offended because Franco said and I'm paraphrasing here "I hate everyone from New York or I hate New Yorkers"
Then the other manager chimed in and said "yeah I don't like New Yorkers ether" Or something similar to that.
Personally I brushed it off but cause I'm just too excited about this game but what they didn't realized even though I felt they were joking and chose to ignore it.
My mother didn't, I heard her tone getting louder, and immediately turned and realized something was wrong, and she said, why does GameStop employee have no manners or respect for their guests.
Now It's impossible for these gentlemen to know this, but My mother being a 9:11 EMT survivor that moved to Florida and still A VERY proud New Yorker was very very upset at the customer service presented to her in the store.
My first instinct was to apologize to the gentleman at the counter, and then go talk to my mother outside and just calm her and the situation down And not hold up the line in the store.
Right before I walked out, the two gentlemen said that they were from New York and they were self loathing it, and it was all good Fun. Be there as it may there's a time in place for everything.
See here's the thing, Now I can understand a sense of humor, which I have, but in the wrong context, and in the wrong place, that was very very unprofessional to say. Personally, I would've never ever expected that to come over out of any of my employees mouths but in the wrong context comes across that these two employees wether joking or not hate a certain demographic location, are prejudiced towards a certain group of people. Do I personally think they are no, but you can't change what you say especially in this "watch what you say world we live in now"
So before anything as I can see my mother is now getting heated and upset, The professionalism in me said to the GSA I apologize for my mother's tone and you two have a good day now.
As I am standing outside with my mother of the store in front of it, the guess behind us approach us outside and apologize on behalf of how the GameStop employee spoke to my mother saying that they were wrong And they also love New York and told my mom thanks for standing up for it.
Now was this a very rude comment about their personal dislike for New Yorkers, yes. Do I believe it was malicious not at all. But it definitely Left the sour taste in my mouth at this location and I don't know if it's a generational thing, but this isn't the first time across many GameStop, where customer service lately over the last couple years for this company has been absolutely atrocious. As far as standards and practices go I think the majority of their seasonal help and or regular staff needs to be retrained on common courtesy is all.
One little positive note real quick about the store itself one of the cleanest GameStop I've seen in years so...

lets start with i have sent over 15-20 PSA orders out with GS in Jacksonville stores, each order is 4 to 12 cards at a time. i have always sent my friends and saying nothing but good things. well this will now stop!! i will no longer send anyone to GS to send their cards and will send them to a local game store that does them. i'm just one person but its the start, all because someone wanted to lie to me and my 8 year old daughter. congrats. hope it...
Read moreRecently went to this store to purchase a new controller for my PS4. Everything was normal and pleasant until I got home and the new controller did not work. I tried everything from rebooting my system and controller to anything I could find on YouTube and beyond. Since nothing worked I exchanged the controller for another to see if maybe it was just a hiccup. Well the second controller did not work either. So, I brought the second one back and returned it for a used one to see if maybe the new red ones were just faulty. However, the third one did not work as well. So at this point I had a friend come over who also owns a ps4 bring their controller over to see if it would connect and it did. So, naturally I went back to the store to get a refund for my purchase. And the manager explained that I could only receive store credit for the controller and not my hard earned money. I explained to her that I did not want to shop there since their products are faulty and she insisted that she could not give my money back. Also, I showed all receipts and brought the controller back and she still said no. So with that being said this store has lost a loyal customer. And honestly I have pulled out my investments into GameStop all together. I do not want to be associated with a company that steals...
