I will no longer be taking my car here after 2 bad interactions. The first was my windshield fluid reservoir. I specifically asked them to look to see if it was the reservoir leaking or if it was a loose connection. They said it was the reservoir and the part and labor would be $220~. So I set some money aside, had them order the part, and made the appointment. They get the part installed and test it, and it still doesn't work. They updated me and then went to do some more diagnosis. Turns out the problem WAS a loose connection. Had I known that originally, I could have saved myself some time and money!
One bad experience after years of decent service isn't a huge issue. So this month, I brought my car in for an oil change and and alignment check before a trip. When I finally heard back from them, they told me there was an issue with the wheel bearing and they couldn't do an alignment. I couldn't afford the $770 to replace the wheel bearing hub, so they did a tire rotation so I could get a little more use out if my tires while I save up. When I picked up my car and drove it home, it was suddenly making a weird warbling noise. So I called back and took my car back and they check the torque in the lugs. They said if the noise continues it is that wheel bearing.
Something seemed off about this interaction as did the fact that my car was now tilting to the left on top of the noise. Neither of which was present beforehand. I decided to get a second opinion and quote at another shop to explore my options and start budgeting. This shop comes back saying that there is no issue with the wheel bearing. However, there is an issue with that suspension rod. The repair is $400. Still up there, but not as overwhelming. However, I am now very curious as to how this was damaged. Especially since I haven't hit any potholes recently with that side particularly.
After this, I will not be coming back...
Read moreAbout three weeks ago, I took my car to Walmart for an oil change. I’ve been going there for years without any issues. However, after this visit, I noticed oil spots on my driveway. Since I don’t have the tools to check under my car, I took it back to Walmart, explained the situation, and they inspected it again. They told me everything looked fine and weren’t sure where the oil was coming from. Unfortunately, the oil spots continued.
Around the same time, my car also started idling higher than normal. Thinking this might be a bigger issue, I decided to take it to Firestone in Shadow Lake, where my car warranty is accepted. I explained the oil leak situation (including the visit to Walmart) and made sure they had my warranty information. A couple of days later, I got a call saying my car was ready, but they hadn’t contacted me beforehand to discuss what was wrong or what it would cost. They explained the oil leak was from a loose oil pan bolt and the idling issue was due to a dirty cabin air filter. My warranty didn’t cover any of this (which I understood), and the total was $220.
When I went to pick up my car, there was a delay because of an error on their end. Then they informed me the total wasn’t $220 but $265, even after a military discount. I was frustrated by the miscommunication and the higher cost, but I paid it and left. To top it off, replacing the air filter didn’t really help with the idling issue, so that’s still unresolved.
I’m not here to bash Firestone, but the lack of communication and incorrect quote left a bad impression. I won’t be going back or recommending them, but I hope others have better luck. If you decide to go, make sure they call you before doing any work....
Read moreFirst, we took my wife's vehicle in for an issue I can't remember off hand. They informed us it was an engine issue and the engine wasn't even for her vehicle. Ok, fine, let's replace the engine. They had to get multiple engines due to the first one they ordered also being the wrong engine. She was out of a vehicle for a week and a half. Then, she took it in for new brakes and they held her vehicle "hostage" unless she bought 4 new tires (even though 2 were only a couple months old). I then made an appointment to get my truck in due to a misfire and a fault on the ignition circuit that handled the cylinder that was misfiring. I had to take the entire day off because of the time frame they gave me. They came back and told me a rodent must have chewed through the wires (I'm an electrician and know what cut wires look like). I drive less than 20 miles and check engine pops back on. I throw my scanner back on it and sure enough: cylinder 8 misfire...AGAIN! The only difference is now I also have a fuel air ratio imbalance. Schedule yet another appointment. Go in, got there early, and sat there for nearly 2.5 hours just to be told the ONLY guy they have that does diagnostics wouldn't be in. So I take another day off of work, just to have an issue remain. I get home and scan it just out of curiosity and the issue they "fixed" at the first visit was back. So I threw $300 at them for them to waste my time?...
