This is the absolute best salon experience I have ever had! I booked with Wendy as I am just starting my curly hair journey for a custom curl cut and consult and WOW!! Wendy spent an hour and a half with me discussing my hair journey, making recommendations without pressure, taking her time cutting my hair carefully (which is very important to me as someone who has had bad cuts on top of hair loss struggles) and styling it all while educating me on what she was doing and why so I could both understand and replicate the results myself. The salon itself is so warm and inviting - they showcase local art all over the walls and the lighting, floor length gold mirrors and lots of plants make it a spa-like experience. I felt so relaxed and so excited as Wendy gave me reassurance on maintaining my curls and made wonderful conversation with me. Wendy did not try to push any products on me to buy from the salon and actually gave me some samples of some of the products she used on me after we finished the service so I could try before I buy. This salon is very focused on sustainability and Wendy said she didn’t want me to buy full sized things just for them to end up in the “product graveyard” as she called it and I really appreciated her commitment to honesty and transparency in her services. I had such a wonderful experience at Sage Hair Collective with Kelsey Reres, and I really want to thank her for it.

Since becoming chronically ill, it’s been difficult to enjoy things like haircuts, or even to feel pretty. Kelsey offers a “quiet haircut,” which you can even book online so you don’t have to awkwardly ask for it in person — and that made such a difference for me. I felt heard and respected the whole time, which is rare and incredibly meaningful.

And the haircut itself is perfect! My hair feels so much lighter, yet it still has the big, wavy shape I love. It’s easy to style, looks natural, and honestly makes me feel more like myself again. I’ve actually started looking in the mirror more — something I’d been avoiding for a long time — and I’ve already had several people compliment the cut. That might seem like a small thing, but it feels huge to me.

I have a story to exemplify just how awesome Kitty (and Sage Hair Collective) is— I had my hair done a week before I was leaving for my destination wedding (at a different salon) and it didn’t look how I wanted it to—it didn’t look natural at all—the stylist at the other salon said it would take more sessions to achieve the look I wanted, even though this wasn’t communicated to me before. Feeling crazy, I went on reddit to ask r/hair what to do. A very helpful color specialist replied that I could achieve the look and asked where I lived so she could provide recommendations. I told her Philly and she replied “OMG thats where I am!” So I DM’d her and she squeezed me in the next day. In only two hours, she made my hair look blended, natural, and beautiful. It was Kitty!
