Checked Oh Brother out yesterday evening and it was decent. They were pretty busy I think due to all of the bar crawls going on in the area for St. Pattys so I'm keeping that in mind for this review. The service was just ok. The person at the counter may have been training, he wasn't efficient and there was also a a bit of a language barrier. I ordered a seeded coop cheese steak, no onions and added truffle creme fraiche. So this was supposed to be a rib eye on a seeded roll with copper sharp without onions and with the truffle creme fraiche. The wait was around 20 minutes. They only have one single stall bathroom which had a line for a good portion of the time I was there. No biggie, i waited to wash my hands for maybe 10 minutes. The bathroom was not clean. When my order came out, the waitress was walking around yelling for Kristin. I asked her if it was mine because no one else was answering her and figured my name was spelled wrong. I gave her my order number and asked what she had. She told me she didn't know, and that all she knew was that it was for Kristin and that the cheesteak had shrimp sauce on it. I told her it wasn't mine. She took the order back when no one claimed it and I guess the order taker pointed her back to my table. When she came back I asked again what the order was and this time she said it was shroom sauce. We finally figured out that it was the correct order, but it was not on a seeded roll, and also did not have shroom sauce on it. That's not even on the menu. I'm hungry at this point and had tickets for museum of illusion about 30 minutes later so it is what it is at this point. It was a decent steak for sure. Very well seasoned and the truffle creme fraiche was so good that i didn't even need to put ketchup on it. The roll was fresh, it stood up to the steak but wasn't too hard. I did have several grisly pieces which I did not like, for all that I would hey a sirloin steak which I rather not, but overall it is a solid cheese steak. The frys were also really good. 9$ for a large fry is crazy but the portion was huge. 2 people can easily share a small. 2 steaks, a large fry and 2 drinks will run you about $50. I will go back but not on the weekend or holiday to see if the service is better if they aren't as busy. 3/5 overall for this visit but I would recommend checking them out especially if...
Read moreI gave feedback via their text link to Oh, Brother THREE times with not even a response when I had requested they would.
We were recently in Philadelphia staying at a hotel local to this OB. We were babysitting, unable to go out, but while in Philly, you have cheesesteaks. We placed our order online and were shocked that two cheesesteaks, a small order of fries, fried cheesecake and fried Oreos, delivery change and tip totaled more than $74! We just went with it, figured it would be an amazing meal. According to OB via text, our order had been delivered. My husband went to the front desk, no order. We called OB and were given the number of the Door Dash deliverer. We called him, there was an enormous language barrier, but my husband was able to talk with the deliverer who was anxiously riding around on his bike with our dinner and stated he had no address and to text it to him. By the time we received our very expensive dinner ($1 for a tablespoon of chopped tomato, really?), it was cold. Our hotel room didn’t have a microwave, we were unable to try to save the meal. I’m sure if we had received our order when OB had texted that it had been delivered, it would have been amazing, but the fries were inedible, the cheesesteaks were cold, would have been incredible if hot. The cold fried Oreos would have been awesome hot, the only thing that we even liked a little was the small fried cheesecake.
Was it worth it? No freaking way.
When hoping for a great experience and being so disappointed, and ignored, you have to share this with others. There are worse things in life than a bad meal experience, but when visiting from out of town, overspending for a meal with a business that states you should have your order when it has not been delivered, never responded to your feedback via their feedback link, who sent your meal to be delivered without the person delivering having accurate information and finally receiving your meal that’s cold and can’t be enjoyed, you are legitimately angry. If we ever go back to Philadelphia, I would go to another OB in the area, this particular OB dropped the ball and could not...
Read moreTldr: Old City location. Seeded Coop. Best Philly I've ever had.
I had a mission to try several Philly cheesesteaks while in town. Advised by the locals, I hit multiple spots ranging from food carts to hole in the wall diners to higher end restaurants with fancy varieties.
Of all those I tried, one place stood out. I've been very literally dreaming about it for a week since. Hands down, the best Philly I've had. Actually and sincerely memorable. Nothing I tried after that stacked up.
I asked the server at the counter (it's counter service only) for whichever Philly he thought was best. He looked like he lit up from the inside and recommended the Seeded Coop, which has some kind of local cheddar/wiz blend, onions, and peppers on a toasted sesame seeded fresh baked bread, perhaps there was some kind of sauce. Nothing crazy. Pretty standard sounding stuff.
You guys, I can't tell you how much this rocked my face. I am thankful I was dining alone because I absolutely needed my entire brain and body to enjoy that sandwich. No room for conversation.
The bread was toasted perfectly, crispy but not hard or sharp, the insides still pillowy soft and warm and perfectly thick without being to big. Fantastic bread. Really, really good. Toasted seeds on the roll didn't add much texturally but the sesame flavor was surprisingly present and complimented the caramelized onion. The meat was piping hot, cooked beautifully, tender, juicy, no gristle or absurdly large bits of fat. It melted in my mouth, wrapped in a cheese that was just sharp enough but not so sharp that it would overtake the meat. It simply blended smoothly into the meat and peppers and soaked slightly into the bread, which held up against it and stayed crunchy. It took me a while to finish this thing and it was just as good at the last bite as the first.
I haven't ranted about a sandwich in a very long time. Maybe ever? But that Seeded Coop haunts my dreams. Go to Oh Brother in Old City. Get the sandwich. I defy you to say...
