I debated whether or not to leave this review, but ultimately decided I shouldn't feel bad for sharing how I felt.
First they asked if I wanted a shampoo. I said no, I just washed it at home. They warned that it might turn out choppy if I don't get it shampooed. I said I appreciate the heads up but I'm picky about what products I use. It felt like they were being very pushy. In hindsight, they probably charge extra for shampoo which might explain it. I had just shampooed and brushed my hair, so I didn't get why it was a big deal to spray it and comb it like happens very normally at lots of barber shops. The warning that it might turn out choppy otherwise felt oddly aggressive, like who says that?? You're a professional barber, you really can't give a decent haircut without a shampoo? I've gotten countless haircuts in my life that turned out fine without a shampoo immediately ahead of time.
When I came in I had remarked it was slow. The barber was like yeah, it just slowed down. I was trying to make small talk so I brought up ah is it always this slow on a Sunday? The reply was "Like I said, it just slowed down." It felt very condescending. I was just trying to make conversation.
Eventually the conversation turned to mousse. I was like hmm I've never used mousse, can you tell me what it is? They were astonished I had never used mousse, and I felt very belittled for not knowing what it was. Sorry I guess? I feel like lots of people don't know what mousse is. Of course then they tried selling me mousse, which I was willing to take a look at but declined, since I like researching my products first. The attempt to sell me mousse also felt very pushy but in a smooth way - I could tell they had done this many times before. I was telling my girlfriend about it later and she was like yeah they usually get commission on products they sell. That probably explains it.
The hair turned out fine, hence the two stars instead of one. But it was truly the worst haircutting experience I've ever had. I felt like crying. I don't think I would be able to go back to...
Β Β Β Read moreUpdate: I heard from owner/franchiser Brett Atkins and spent 10 minutes on the phone with him. I sent him the details of my experience and requested a refund of the unannounced charge, He wrorte me back that "things change" and - even though the $10 charge for 2 second trim of mustache" was not posted or I was told before hand. (same for trimming an ear hair!), I was told it was legit. So I must warn others that the owner doesn't care about keeping a customer of 20 years. So use this specific Supercuts at your own risk and confirm before the stylist (seems only Kelly now) performs a service.
Been using supercuts for 20+ years. I've always had good stylists. On August 6th. I had a TERRIBLE experience with stylist who over charged me $10 and then wouldn't give me a receipt. I tried top reach the Franchiser and no reply. There are other locations in Philadelphia but none knew the contact for the Head House square location. Until I hear from the Franchiser (and seeing that stylist is still there I cannot recommend this location. I will revise the review if I do hear...
Β Β Β Read moreI have been going to the $110-per-visit salons for a while now thinking that less expensive haircuts would be a disaster (and many years ago, I had gone into a salon in S. Philly, paid $20 for a hair cut, and it was a disaster. This thought stayed with me for years). I saw a great review of Supercuts and decided to take a chance. It's a walk-in set-up, and as I waited my turn, I saw young stylists doing beautiful work on people of all ages. The young woman who took care of me (Trish) washed my hair, combed a very precise part, sectioned and clipped, gave me a beautiful and clean cut, then did the blow out---and my hair looked GREAT! Today's style---a professional and attractive blunt cut with some layers...I was so pleased. She said that cutting hair is "what we do." The stylists receive education every three months on the latest trends...and it shows. I really am a convert! I paid $30 for a wash, cut, and blow dry for my long hair. I highly...
