I’m a health psychologist and newly minted pain patient due to failed emergency back surgery and patient abandonment. I’ve run into more horrors than I ever thought possible as a pain patient but the most common is the look of disdain doctors, nurses, and pharmacists give me when they find out I’m a pain patient daring to seek medical care. Today was the worst though at this awful Walgreens in Pinson. My pain doctor had just prescribed a new medication hoping we could relieve some pain and I’d be able to sit up for longer than 20 mins without going into level 10 pain and then I can do PT to learn to move again. I called my regular Walgreens and several other pharmacies to see who had it in stock so I could do more in my PT appointment tomorrow and be able to return to helping my own patients next month. The Pinson location said they had it, so my doc sent it electronically as she was closing. I saw there was an insurance issue so I called again and was told it required a PA, an obstacle I’d encountered before so I simply paid cash if I couldn’t wait, so I asked how much it was out of pocket, and the pharmacist said $200, so I timed my meds just right so that I could be in the car for an hour even though I was majorly pushing my limits. When I arrived the tech squinted her eyes and glared in judgement and said she wouldn’t fill it, so I informed her I’d just spoken to the pharmacist who came over and squinted and glared as well. I wonder if they practice that dumb face with each other bc it was identical. She said Walgreens had a policy where they only allow cash payments if the PA is denied to which I said no I’ve done it before with another controlled substance and asked why she let me drive all the way to the country in pain if she had no intention of giving me my meds and she said she didn’t know I was coming. So I called corporate to open a case on her and searched for the policy but couldn’t find anything and I walked back in and called her on it and said she was discriminating against pain patients, another woman said, “mmmhmm,” nodding in agreement, so clearly this is common practice for this location. The pharmacist said she was canceling my entire prescription so I picked up my phone to record her so I’d have proof bc pain patients are never believed so we get pretty diligent about keeping records. I later found out she is allowed to refuse my meds if she feels like it as a quiet Walgreens policy, but I’m not so sure about canceling them - I’ll find out. Regardless I’d recommend you avoid this Walgreens if you’re a pain patient as I’m now in ten times more pain from driving an hour, going into fight or flight, and being left without the medicine that would have helped me learn to move again tomorrow, and if my doc believes me it will be two days before I can obtain them at my regular pharmacy who was horrified by how I was treated. I’m very sad for all of us that disabled people and pain patients are treated with such disdain especially since my speciality is treating medical gaslighting and trauma. You can’t treat trauma until you’re safe, and when you’re a pain patient you’re not even safe with those who took the job to heal you…in fact they’ll let you suffer and die without a second thought. I hope they all get to experience one day what they put us through on a daily...

Read moreOn May 20, 2025, I ordered my medication. I returned to the pharmacy to pick it up on May 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM, only to be told that it wouldn’t be ready until June 1, 2025 — a full 11 days after the original order date. I expressed that this was unacceptable, and I was told to come back in 20 minutes.
When I returned at 4:31 PM, only one of my prescriptions was ready. I was then told the rest would still not be available until the next day. At that point, I asked to speak to a manager and was directed to Grant, who was overseeing the pharmacy at the time.
Unfortunately, my experience with him was also disappointing. He interrupted me repeatedly while I was speaking and was extremely dismissive of my concerns. Rather than offering a solution or a sincere apology, he provided a list of excuses for the delay — none of which justified the extensive wait time or poor communication.
This level of service is unacceptable, especially when it involves important medications. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that steps are taken to improve communication, accountability, and professionalism in...
