El Güerro Taqueria: A Taco Paradise That Made Us Forget Our Beach Woes!
After a full day of beach combing and soaking up the sun, my cousin and I were hungry enough to consider gnawing on our flip-flops. Thankfully, Google pointed us to El Güerro Taqueria, and boy, did it deliver a taco experience that could make even Poseidon drool!
The moment I sank my teeth into their Carnitas taco, I was transformed into a taco evangelist. In my 53 years of taco research (a serious commitment, folks), this was unequivocally the best taco I have ever had. Those handmade corn tortillas were fresher than my morning coffee—so soft and warm they practically whispered sweet nothings to me. The carnitas? Juicy and flavorful, with a tenderness that could melt even the coldest of hearts. And the salsa? It was so spicy it could probably star in its own action movie—“Salsa: The Fiery Avenger!”
We devoured those tacos like they were the last food on Earth, then exchanged glances that said, “We need more—stat!” Enter the birria and asada. The birria was straight-up nostalgia, tasting just like my mom’s home cooking. The asada was delicious, too, but let’s be real—the carnitas and birria are the true taco titans here.
Just when I thought we’d reached taco nirvana, we decided to tackle dessert. The tres leches cake was good—like that fun cousin who shows up at family gatherings with a party hat: enjoyable, but not the star of the show.
So, if you're in the mood for a taco adventure that will make your taste buds do the cha-cha, head to El Güerro Taqueria! Just be prepared for a possible food coma on the beach—trust me, it's a delicious risk worth...
Read moreGreat little taco and drinking destination, you are welcomed to a spacious, clean, and well laid out restaurant, you know you can really trust a restaurant when they have the kitchen completely open for your visual inspection. I really appreciate the transparency of food and drinks at this establishment, I understand it's in the Pismo Beach main thoroughfare so of course prices might be a little steeper than most, before I even talk about food I would strongly suggest if you have a taste for a original margarita to check them out as they make their margaritas some of the best you would taste in the area. There is a decent selection of tacos that are available where you can either buy the taco separately or add on beans and rice to your meal. I must be honest out of the three times that I've visited this restaurant I've enjoyed having drinks and conversations more than just jumping into a plate of food. The food especially the nachos are fantastic, fresh, and a portion like no other. You might not agree with the slightly higher prices but at least you will get a good portioned meal for you and easily another person to enjoy. There are other Mexican restaurants and cantinas in the area, but if you are in Pismo near the pier then this is a great place to stop and enjoy. Pro tip try to catch them on a Monday or Tuesday where they will have discounted margaritas or Taco Tuesday which you can stretch your dollar farther and have more bang for your buck. I will say that this is a restaurant worth visiting so please don't hesitate. Enjoy your meal, enjoy the destination, and whatever...
Read moreGreat food and friendly staff! I had the entree with 3 tacos (1 asada, 1 carnitas, and 1 pastor) and it was A++++. Made with handmade tortillas, the tacos were amazing from 1st to last bite. The pastor was nice and charred (just the way I like it) and had great flavor with great texture. The carnitas were flavorful and juicy. The asada was also fantastic. Lean high quality meat and again nice and charred. All three tacos were a good size. Not overly huge but also not small by any means. They came with a nice mixture of cilantro and onions, with a delicious topping of green avocado and orange salsa. It gave the tacos that extra "oomph" while adding a generous amount of heat. My wife had the nachos with asada meat. Again a good portion size, with chips that are nice and thick in size, so they didn't get soggy, while strong enough to scoop up the beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, and their delicious asada. I had a draft models that was nice and cold and went down smooth with my meal, while my wife had the michelada with Corona. She also gives 5 stars on the tasty drink. Although a bit pricey, the quality and portion size are well worth it. Definitely a newer must-try restaurant...
