This was my first visit to any Aldi store. I went in the evening and it wasn't crowded at all. First confusion was that there were no cart corrals outside in the parking lot. hmmmmm. When you enter, there is a line of carts but there is a coin slot. Hmmmmm. I go further in the store and find an empty cart at the end of a full serve check out aisle. So now I go shopping. The first thing I notice is that the entire row of frozen food compartments are empty. A sign says to ask someone if you need a frozen item. I find out that their sprinkler system went off accidentally and all the frozen food are in refrigerated trucks in the back of the store. I ask if they have any chicken pot pies but I'm out of luck. The store employee tells me that stock is limited, but all shelves should be restocked by Monday (I was there on a Friday evening). First thing I notice is that eggs are $1.02 per dozen, AND they are Large, not medium eggs. So far things are looking good. 73/27 Ground beef is under $4 a pound for a 5 pound family pack. I'm liking that too. Similar low prices for lactose free milk, butter, cream cheese and prepackaged cheese slices and brick packed. Selection for the most part is sufficient. Brand name items are priced higher and selection for brand name items is minimal. I find just about everything I need and the prices are extremely less that any other supermarket I've ever shopped. Full serve checkout is available and no lines. You put your items on the conveyor belt and the cashier places all your items in another empty cart at the end of the aisle. Oops, I guess I shouldn't have taken that cart I used. Anyway, I was warned that you need to bring your own bags, which I did. After paying, you take your new cart to a packing station (a long wooden stand where you transfer your items into your bags). This is a great system because the check out lines are not held up by people/or the cashier packing your items while the rest of the line doesn't move. Overall I loved the whole experience, especially the total price for my cart full of items. My only complaint is that several items did not have prices for them. That, for me, is a common occurrence at other places as well and it's really annoying since there are not a lot of employees roaming the store to assist you. But I'm willing to live with that because it keeps the prices low. But someone should walk the store and correct any items that aren't priced. After loading the groceries into my car, I notice again that there are no places outside to put your empty cart. So I walked mine back into the store. Oddly, no one seemed to just leave their cart out in the lot. I guess that's because, if you get your cart correctly in the first place, you'll need to deposit a quarter to release it. So I guess you can't leave your cart in the lot if you want your quarter back. Now I know!! No carts are gonna get loose and hit your car. I'll definitely be going back, especially because I'll need to check out their frozen food selection. I give this store...
Read moreThis place is in a quiet corner of the Home Depot, BJ's, and IKEA shopping center. Due to the blackout window film, you'd almost think this business was closed, but it's just a measure to keep the intense sun glare at a minimum. As soon as you walk into the store, you'll notice how clean and well-kept the store is. The aisles are quite spacious compared to some stores. The vegetables are always very good quality and very fresh. The bakery items have a large selection of breads, bagels, low carb wraps, Italian, and French breads. The other items include Brioche, croissants, cookies, etc. The variety of canned goods, cereals, snacks from Aldi's own products to Campbell's, Rao's, Tastykakes, and much more. Their meat selection has a variety from chicken, brisket, prime rib, lamb, and much more. One of the things I truly appreciate is that some of their steaks and other meat products is that they're individually cryovac'd. So, if you're single, you could cook one today and refrigerate/freeze the other for another meal. Their freezer items also include a variety of bagged skillet meals, single serve meals, and various ethic foods. My favorite standouts are the orange chicken, General Tso's chicken, and the Freemont British fish and chips. They also have a variety of breakfast items, pizza, seafood, desserts, and ice creams. The cheese and deli selection is quite impressive. You'll find Brie, Burrata, fresh mozzarella along with a variety of salumi's, olives, dips, and much much more. Other items that you should try are Aldi's refrigerated egg rolls. They come in chicken or pork varieties. The Mama Cossi's take and bake pizzas are not only very reasonable priced but also very good. Just note to yourself that some items throughout the store are seasonal, so stock up while you can. While other items are generally in stock throughout the year. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Or, check Aldi's app for news each month of what will be hitting hitting the shelves. So, the next time you're wondering how to change up your meals. Or, you're looking to save a few dollars on your weekly grocery bill. Stop by one of the local area Aldi's, I've been to several of them throughout our area. They have a lot of really great items and some at a fraction of the cost of the supermarket without skimping on quality. You could even pick up flowers, plants, kitchen products, or even an air conditioner all at prices you'll find hard to believe....
Read moreI find this Aldi a lot better and less crowded than the ones in KOP or off of Girard Avenue in the city. I live in East Falls in Philly and so I use this one a few times a year when I'm out and about running errands and/or shopping in the Plymouth Meeting area. While finding it the first time, or if it's been a year or more, can be a bit tough, there's plenty of parking, it is easy to get to, and I've found it less crowded but still just as well stocked as the other Aldi locations in and around Philly. While I don't find everything I want here due to its European origins/functionality, it's not a bad place to pick up most of the staples you need and they're pretty competitive on prices. Plus, the do carry an assortment of options, brands, items, etc. that other supermarkets in the area do not so that also makes it worthwhile to pop in once in a while if you're...
