I visited Giant 2 hours ago to stock up on groceries now that we've been relocated to a hotel with a kitchen following a devastating house fire. I spent $591.78 on this visit and unfortunately had one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
The cashier, “Niyah” per her name tag, was extremely rude from the start. She didn’t greet us or say a word throughout the transaction. I don’t know if she was upset that the previous cashier left right before our very large order, but her attitude was unacceptable. She rang our items slower than necessary, clearly trying to avoid bagging anything. At one point, she rang up our pepper, it fell on the floor, and my father told her about it five times. She ignored him each time, even going as far as to wave him off.
At that point, I stepped up from behind our two grocery carts and tried to address it. Instead of helping, she told me we don’t know what people are going through. I reminded her that she doesn’t know what others are dealing with either, and explained that we just lost our home in a fire. My dad stopped bagging after that interaction. I asked her directly if she bags groceries, and she said "yeah I bag". I told her her attitude was completely unacceptable. She then told us we should have never said anything to her in the first place.
I’ve never encountered such unprofessional behavior at any store, let alone after spending nearly $600. She lacks basic customer service skills and should not be assigned to a register or placed in any customer-facing role. This experience left a very negative impression during an already difficult time...
Read moreWill not be shopping here again despite going there for many years because of my experience today. The prices have skyrocketed over the past few months which was already upsetting me.
But when I went today they had just redone the layout and replaced most of the cashier stations with “self service” cashier stations. So there was only 1 actual checkout person during one of the peak busy times in the afternoon. These new self service stations are completed broken. They have a conveyor belt (unclear exactly why since it’s self service and you can keep your stuff in your cart) but only three places to put your bags once your items have been scanned, which is as much as the normal self checkout stations have. The main issue with doing self checkout when you have a lot of items is not enough room for your bags, and these stations do nothing to solve it!
On top of that my station’s scanner was completely broken and would not scan my items until I placed them in the bag and it yelled at me to remove the item. I legitimately spent 30 minutes checking out my items because of this and had to have someone come help me at least 10 times throughout. And I wasn’t the only one as other people were also struggling with these obviously defective machines.
It’s ridiculous they are trying to use bad technology to cut jobs while making the experience way worse for the customer, all to marginally improve their fat profits.
Needless to say I will not be shopping there moving forward as this store is just a GIANT waste of time and money. I’ll be going to Aldi instead which is ten...
Read moreManagement needs to imrove on handling customers when the store is at fault. I placed an online order for a cookie tray to be picked up for an event. When the pickup person arrived the cookie order was no where to be found. After waiting over 30min instead of being offered cookies to make up for their error, the pickup person had to purchase cookies which totaled $5 more than the tray. When I called the next day for a refund I was told the cookies were ready which I declined given the event was the evening prior. I asked for a refund. I was made to come to the location for the refund as they were unable to reverse an online order. When I came in I explained the situation and was refunded the price of the tray. I reiterated that in this day and age of high gas prices I did not understand why I had to come to the store and furthermore I asked for the difference between the tray and the cookies purchased. I did not have the receipt with me and was asked if I wanted cookies or donuts in place of the $5. I don't understand why a gift card or a simple I'm sorry for the wasted time and gas wasn't offered. This was your mistake not mine. I ordered well in advance of the event and prepaid. A resolution to this the day of pickup would have been appreciated and went a long way....
