They donât honor their own advertised Veterans' discount.
I went on-line to find a reasonably priced, local storage facility, to keep some furniture, here in Plymouth, Massachusetts. I came across âStor-U-Selfâ Storage, at 8 Natalie Way. They were close-by, clean, and priced similarly to what I was finding elsewhere. They offered a 9âX10' indoor, first floor room for $114 per month, with a promotion for the first two months being 50% off. Itâs of note that this promotion isnât anything particularly special since I found that the price was very similar to other storage facilities prices for the same size room, and the âfirst two months at 50% offâ promo wasnât dissimilar to the 1st month free that many storage facilities offer. Their website also clearly advertised a 5% discount for Veterans and Seniors (Iâm a 62-year-old VA-rated Disabled Veteran).
I reserved the 9âX10' room on-line and went over to the facility to look it over and see the room. When I arrived, I met with the Assistant Manager, Jonathan Busby, who took me on a tour of the facility and showed me larger rooms on the second floor (which I declined). He also made sure to show me a âprice sheetâ and pointed out that I was quoted the âon-line priceâ because the âin person priceâ was $239 per month (no such âin-personâ pricing was advertised on their website, nor posted at the facility). We also spoke about the advertised first two months being 50% off. He pointed out that when I booked the room, I would pay for the first month and the second month would be free. As part of our ongoing conversation, I pointed out that, while it wasn't quite what was advertised (50% off each of the first two months), it equated to the same thing and that it was no different than many storage facilities do as promotions. Which he acknowledged.
When we came back to the Office, I asked about the 5% Veterans' discount that was advertised. Jonathan bantered about not âknowing how to apply the Veteranâs discount in addition to the first two months at 50% off promotionâ. We chatted about the difference between a temporary sales promotion and a stated permanent discount but, ultimately, I was told that Walter Pollock, the Facility General Manager, would likely be able to help me.
I waited patiently for Mr. Pollock to finish with two other customers and then he came over to chat with me. He unequivocally stated that they would not honor the Veterans' discount. He gave me a litany of reasons, 1) I was already receiving the âon-line rateâ, rather than the âwalk-in rateâ (there is no posted âwalk-in rateâ, only a sheet that they carried around with them), 2) I was receiving the âfirst two months at 50% offâ (a temporary promo, not a permanent discount, and no different than any other storage facility), 3) I didnât confirm, book, and pay for the room on-line, in advance of coming in (the system sends you an e-mail message, instructing you to being in the reservation paperwork to the facility to sign the contract for the room), and 4) âWe arenât going to just give the rooms awayâ.
I pointed out that, in good faith, I did everything that the website told me to do, I wasnât asking that they âgive awayâ the room, and that âfor what amounts to a self-advertised $6 discount, [they were] going to watch business walk out the doorâ. I further indicated that I wasnât trying to be nasty in any way, I simply expected them to stand by what they advertised. Mr. Pollock just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I left the building to bring my...
Read moreBest storage place ever. We just moved here to a smaller place than we had before so we needed a storage unit for our stuff that couldnât fit in our new place. I called around to a few places earlier in the week and they were all âokâ in the price wise and customer service friendly areas. My husband and I went to check out one place and they werenât open on my husbandâs only day off and really short hours the rest of the week. You had to get out and check in in the office. Drive across the street to the units. Then check back out in the office. (With 2 small children getting them out and then back in and then back out over wasnât going to work.) Another place only had like 3 different size units, really small or really big. And only upstairs available at the moment, no elevator. (Once again, seemed kind of impossible to handle with 2 children and whatever stuff we were moving.) Another place gave us a quote and then when we went to sign up later told us about all these other fees that add on. Stor-U-Self looked big and fancy and really nice so I thought it would be way too expensive. But then online I saw, pay one month get the next month free. So I thought it would be worth it to check them out even if we only used them for two months while we found another unit. We walked in and immediately were like âYep! This is what we want!â They weâre upfront about the one time and recurring fees. (Which if you have your own insurance you can use that, they donât make you buy theirs unless you donât have any at all.) They had so many different sized units so we could choose just the right one. They gave us a tour and showed us the sizes. The entire storage facility including the units and the parking, are all indoors. Well lit, and very clean. Not to mention temperature regulated. It was pouring rain and even snowed the week we moved so that right there was awesome. You set your own pin, or use a QR reader on the app for the keypad (which you drive right up to) to get in through the huge garage door. (Which by the way is all glass. I know this doesnât really matter but I like that you can see outside and donât feel like youâre in a dungeon. Itâs the little things, lol). When they saw we had two small children they gave us a unit right on a corner at the beginning of an aisle so we could park the truck and could see them while we worked so we didnât have to get them out. They have carts available for customer use which is cool if you donât have your own dolly/hand cart. They have numerous cameras with live feed that display in lobby. Thereâs a bathroom inside the office. This place is new, and so far, theyâre amazing. They were thorough with explaining how everything works, including access (which btw is everyday 7am - 9pm whether the office is open or not) what we were singing up for, and emailed us all our paperwork after. Their website is great and informative too. They were so nice and friendly to us. I am so happy we found Stor-U-Self when I was starting to stress out. They have made this move so much easier. Iâm glad a have a safe, secure, easy, comfortable place for our stuff that works out great for us and our wants...
Read moreI need climate controlled storage for furniture and household items when I sold my motherâs house. I walked into Stor-U-Self in Plymouth, where I live, and was immediately greeted by Walter. Walter was friendly, knowledgeable, and not pushy. I immediately felt at ease. I told him the amount of furniture I needed to store, and he suggested two different sized units. Before we went and looked at them, he told me how much each one was, and that I was eligible for a two month discount!
We went and looked at both, and I chose the larger one just to be safe. Before we went back in the office, he showed me the entry and exit overhead doors, and the inside parking to unload. Inside parking! I was amazed! And the place is clean - spick and span. The units, the office, the hallways, the inside parking area, the outside grounds and even the bathrooms.
We went back to the office and sat down to do the paperwork. Everything was itemized and explained, and there were no surprises. Walter walked me through everything, and answered all of my questions. The paperwork as done in about 15 minutes, and I walked out with my access code, and keys to the padlock I purchased while I was there. They even sold boxes and moving supplies.
Iâm very happy with my decision to go with Stor-U-Save, and I give Walter Pollock my highest recommendation. He is a gentleman and a man...
