Art of Framing — Local services in Portland

I collect art and photographs and over the years I have used pretty much every framing service in Portland. I recently returned from a decade of working in the Middle East and wanted to frame a painting I brought home with me. A web search turned up J Rollins Art of Framing, which is a business I hadn't heard of before, and the reviews were wonderful. So I took my painting to Joanne, the owner, and had an amazing experience in the process of selecting a frame. Joanne is an artist and has a superb eye for design. But she involves you as an equal in the process of selecting a frame and discussing your preferences. After considering more than a dozen options, we actually both agreed that the least expensive frame was the best suited to the picture. I needed to have a print ready in time for my grandmother's 91st birthday – a week and 2 business days away. They estimated it might take 3 weeks because the frame I chose (locally made by Northwest Frameworks) needed to be specially ordered.

Well, I got a call just a week later saying my frame was ready to be picked up! I was beyond happy.

This place has so much character and class. Joanne Rollins has clearly poured herself into this shop and her work. When you walk in she has art all over the walls and really neat crafts and bangles for sale. She works from a table right in the middle of her shop and welcomes you in like it's her living room. I pulled out my piece to show her and she treated it like treasure with so much care and respect. We talked through a whole bunch of options and samples and she found things that brought out the color of the image so well. I can't believe how great she had it looking by the end.
