This store is truly the best. Don Pepe, his wife his sons, his whole family, and Rain… have always been so good to me. It feels right and good to support a truly local family business. They are true passionate leather experts. Coming from materials and textiles nerd who worked for Nike and in manufacturing generally for 15 years… their craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. They do bespoke work and custom design things with you, including edits to their already outstanding core product lines. The whole time, you’re getting warm, caring attention from good humans and you’re made to feel part of the family. Beautiful small-batch artisan hand-made stuff… the workshop where they make everything from scratch is IN THE STORE. Check it out… like an open kitchen you can see everything. The father and sons are there working all the time, the mother runs the shop, and the strong Oaxaca Mexican family heritage imbues the whole place with a “Coco”-like ambiance… the vibes and feel of the place is impeccable. Oaxaca leather artisans are famous for their intricate designs and level of high-grade hand-made detail. Fortunate to have a place like this in Oregon. The rich smell of the leather hits you when you walk in. Obviously, can’t say enough about this place. One of my fav places in Portland and I feel extremely lucky it’s in my backyard downtown. Promote the little guys! A family business like this that produces such high quality deserves to succeed. I carry around their stuff and use it internationally on my business trips. Quality has never failed me. On one occasion a zipper pull got a little loose but they fixed for free without questions immediately. I get asked all the time on vacation and on business where I got my bags. Idk if they have an online store (I think so?) but I tell them to go to Portland and check out the flagship. Because you can see them actually working on all the stuff right there in front of you. Like a free tour and peek behind the scenes at how they actually make the stuff you’re about to buy. No hidden secrets. Just expert craftsmanship they’re obviously proud of… as they should be. Anyways, longest review I’ve ever...
Read moreI’ve been an Orox fanboy from the moment my wife insisted I get their rucksack. It might seem odd, but I can’t count the number of times a stranger has stopped me to comment on or inquire about my backpack. That speaks volumes about how rare it is to find the perfect combination of excellent design, exceptional materials, and artisan craftsmanship—all coming together to create something that’s both beautiful and supremely functional. And to expect durability on top of that? It’s practically unheard of.
Whenever someone stops me to ask about it, I proudly share the name “Orox,” jot down the Portland address, and often end up describing the other Orox items my family and I own that truly enrich our lives. Sometimes, I even mention what’s on my wish list!
For an unforgettable experience, visit their store on NW Couch. Once inside, you’ll find yourself surrounded by fellow enthusiasts excitedly planning their next investment in products that will enhance their lives. What they know—and what you’ll soon discover—is that these prices reflect uncompromising quality, handcrafted right there in Portland.
Here’s how I think about it: take any price tag, divide it by 20 years, and that’s the annual cost of owning something extraordinary. For example, my rucksack now costs me just $20 per year—or $2 per month—to use daily and still be the only item I own that looks better after I spill coffee on it.
This version retains your enthusiasm while polishing the flow and structure. Let me know if you’d like...
Read moreOrox Leather is such a great shop! I walked in there one day because I noticed their sign-- "Best smelling store in Portland!" It's true!!! I love the smell of quality leather products, and Orox is full of them! I was struck by a beautiful hat, they call it 'the proletariat hat.' I told myself I'd buy myself that hat as a gift once I finish school and get my first job... and I did! I finally went back into Orox to buy the beautiful hat I first set my eyes on after a year of patiently waiting! Rain was so helpful at the front desk, taking my order and communicating so personably. They didn't have the color I wanted in-store at that moment, so they made it for me in less than two weeks time. When I went to pick it up, they monogrammed it for me on the spot, then threw in some little complementary gifts. They are a great family business! Excellent customer service, wonderful products, and an overall fantastic experience...
