I had the absolute pleasure of being Jewel Box patron after visiting Portland with a girl who I was newly “seeing.” We ended up at The Jewel Box after begging a local couple at dinner to tell us where to go for a “relaxing time, great drinks and a great atmosphere and that the Bearded Lady’s Jewel Box is what they suggested (they knew we were on a date). I don’t know who that couple was but they are my heroes.

It was a random Sunday night and it was quiet inside. We almost missed it but someone walking by showed us the (somewhat) hidden door and I walked into a dream...or at least what felt like one. Everything from the incredible and unique cocktails, to the vintage-y eclectic and elegant ambiance, solid indie/alt playlist, lighting, UPSTAIRS LOUNGE CHAIRS (thank you Brittney for telling us about it) to the temporary tattoos on the way out. It was as if I had found some hidden gem and I did. This place will forever be in my memory as one of the best parts of one of the best nights of my life. I can’t wait to travel to Portland again and relive that it.

I’ve been to my fair share of bars across the country in my 30+ years and this was, by far, hands down my absolute favorite. I’ve never seen anyplace so aesthetically pleasing, visually stunning, comfortable and romantic. A diversely curated, unique drink menu that changes on a monthly basis must be nice if you live here.

If you’re in Portland, GO TO THE BEARDED LADY’S JEWEL BOX. You won’t be disappointed. I’m still gushing and...

A cute and welcoming bar on Congress, Jewel has a moody and ethereal feel with blue and pink lights, murals of a french riverside, and eclectic decorations.

The drinks are on a rotation and are usually a good mix of daring new drinks and classic crowd pleasers (usually centered around a theme such as Tarot, the Sailor Scouts, or other touchstones).

There is one bar area with 10 or so stools, with an additional couple of seating areas near the windows and edges.

They regularly host events like viewing nights, Karaoke, costume events and more.

All in all Jewel is a fun and laid back local bar, great for quiet conversation...

Very cool ambience. Definitely different than your normal cocktail lounge. You can tell lots of thought and efforts were put into putting this place together. The cocktails we had were all game of thrones related. They change up their whole menu each month so you know each time you come, you can expect a new drink experience! Some cocktails are better than others, but that's what you get when you let the drink wizards use their creativity, which I think is a great thing! If you're looking for a classy place to get drinks, with a chill and cool vibe, then check...

Attentive staff. Nothing wrong with the service. This place is just too much. It’s like the owners/designers were trying to mix all the fun and hip things from the past 25 years into one scene. Black lace flowing from the ceiling, glow in the dark pineapple, Gothic goblets for cocktails, gold peacock center piece, strobe lights, and dead flowers everywhere. I just don’t know 🤷‍♀️. Like a Halloween had a Goth baby with Portland in the 2000s and it threw up Pinterest. Great service though.

The drinks are fabulous! The staff is great and curates a fantastic playlist every night. It attracts a diverse crowd, so I did some people watching while I was there. I liked the decor and there was plenty of seating. Went back two nights in a row until close. I wish they could stay open later. Oh yea. The owner has a shrine dedicated to AALIYAH. Yes, please!

This place looks really cool; it has a great vibe and atmosphere as well as really cool design, but the cocktails are pretty bad! We tried all the Game of Thrones ones ( Arya’s List, Mother of Dragons, Lady Olena and Oathkeeper) and they were all terrible! Our friend that got the Aperol was the happiest. Good for her
