Captain Crossfit is a local gym located in Prescott Arizona. The gym is there to give great workouts and a great community, and they accomplish this almost all the time. Captain Crossfit is organized chaos, although this may sound bad it is not. You are there to get stuff done and work out; the place is well organized with the equipment in convenient positions without being in the way, the inside is surrounded by a rig on the wall for pull-ups and bench and stuff like that. Another great thing about Captain Crossfit is the community, it is built around the people that inhabit it. Captain Crossfit is a gym that is well structured and well organized throughout. The gym has a rig for all kinds of movements that borders on the walls of the gym, it is used for almost everything and it is huge. That rig leads to plenty of space for athletes to work out and have their own space. Another thing that shows the organization of the gym is the programming, the programming is made around the space and made in house. The programming varies from day to day and week to week meaning that every day you will get a different workout. This variation helps immensely because, to be frank doing squats every day for a month will make you not want to work out but the way Captain Crossfit does it, it becomes enjoyable, assuming you get past the initial soreness, and the enjoyability is because of the well structured and organized gym with good management. The gym is really well cleaned being cleaned every week and deep cleaned every month. The gym is almost never dirty unless you count chalk from athletes that week, this cleanliness lends itself to the organization and management of the gym really well and shows just how much the people managing the gym care about it. The abundant space, the amazing programming, and the cleanliness all lend a hand in the greatness of the space and gym. Captain Crossfit has one of the best communities with people that are inviting friendly and supportive while still being a little competitive. This community is half the fun at the gym, they are willing to help and wait for people while still being willing to poke fun at you, never bullying or anything just poking fun the way friends do. This great community becomes clear when you learn about the hotshots’ event that they do yearly. This event is done to honor and raise money for the nineteen hotshots that passed in the granite mountain fire. Most of the time when this event comes around a huge chunk of the members will come together and help with the event volunteering what takes months of planning in support of these firefighters and it highlights the strength of the community at Crossfit. Captain Crossfit is a well organized well kept and well-cleaned gym that does everything it can do to make the experience for the members as good as it can be. The community of this gym is the backbone of it and leads to a lot of great things that are filled with great and...
Read moreCaptain CrossFit is less of a crossfit community and more of a Prescott/Yavapai community.
This is a gym, so I will begin by confirming that my fitness and health have consistently improved since joining in late 2016. However, the true value I have found with continued membership comes from the many acquaintances and genuine friends(buds) I have made since joining. Social gainz.
5 stars is biased. I chose to take advantage of all the gym had to offer. Such as staying after classes to get more help on certain techniques and movement within the crossfit fitness genre. The coaches/staff are all friendly and helpful as well as regular members providing the same friendliness to new members. This type of hospitality eventually led to strong bonds being formed and Captain began to heavily influence my goals outside of the gym.
I could write on and on about this. But I’ll try to drive it home in summary:
Basically, I found that the type of people that attend crossfit are highly motivated and successful. Two things that I certainly was not in 2016. I am not stupid(perhaps debatable), I’ve learned that when we, as humans, emerse ourselves in certain enviornments we start to become like that environment. This is probably from osmosis and some other science stuff that happens, I am not sure, it is difficult to explain but it is measurable. Where my life is now compared to where it was in 2016. Although the metrics are vague when it comes to self improvement, I can confidently look back and find a significantly improved life of my own! Improvements in: career, dignity, meaningfulness, and overall competence in life skills can all be traced back to a new friend or mentor from the Captain and Prescott community.
Beyond the community impact on myself, Captain is heavily involved in the community of Prescott and Yavapai County. The annual Hotshot 19 WOD event is hosted at this facility and it is a truly humbling experience to be apart of. Another example of many as to why Captain CrossFit goes beyond being a crossfit community.
SIDE NOTE If all you want is a gym and someone with experience to coach you, becoming part of the community is not a requirement. Or maybe you just want a gym to do your own thing; the facility is absolutely enormous, there is almost always “open gym” time allotted, and the equipment is top notch. Cleanliness, friendliness, and easy month to month payments also make it ideal for the individualistic individual.
In conclusion, there are a lot of good choices out there for a gym! I hope this review has helped steer someone’s gym...
Read moreI am brand new to Captain Crossfit and I can't say enough good about the place. The community of other members is friendly and welcoming. The owner, Coach Michelle, is capable of training the most advanced athletes as well as beginners and working directly with them to meet their specific capabilities. I am a beginner, formerly a decent athlete but now old, and in the group setting she makes adjustments to my routine to best fit what I can and can't do.
Michelle offers membership plans that are reasonably priced and fit most needs. Twice a week, no problem, unlimited, no problem. 10 class card to use over 6 months, yep. And drop ins.
I can't recommend...
