Was not the audience that I was looking for.
I am an adult and still do not appreciate public shaming.
There is a bag policy, that is not very specific and I guess after 18 visits with the same bag, mine is no longer allowed. YOU should have a posting of exact sizing allowed, like at the airports.
Instead of just explaining that the sign was on the door that I never saw until today.
She went on and on and on very loudly about why I would not bring in my bag today. How you have had a lot of theft in the last year and implied how with my large handbag, I was one of those who stole.
Get cameras, have your employee's walk around the store offering to help others instead of just hanging out behind the counter! ( Shinkage is not my problem and customer service helps to keep this under check!)
She also mentioned about, how I could just leave my purse on the counter. The purse that had all my personal possessions to include a lot of cash. What happens if I leave it with them and my cash comes up missing?? What happens then...
I had a 8 person audience, who all stood and watched the procession, staring at me and my daughter, being scolded loudly ( book-store loud) about why I would not be allowed in.
And how they hoped that they would not loose my business.
All said with my 10 year old was disappointed and embarrassed with the whole exchange. She said as much and could not figure out why the lady was mad.
The sign needs to be larger and everyone's hand bag should not be allowed...And everyone should have this rule apply to them not just...
Read morePeregrines Book Store is genuinely a fantastic establishment. It offers a diverse selection of books and related items, a welcoming atmosphere, and a friendly staff, despite complaints about their high prices. They sell an eclectic selection of books and other trinkets/toys. I'm curious if I'll walk out with a book or even a stuffed animal when I go in. The jellycats are almost impossible not to purchase. Every time I enter this store, I'm wowed by the interior design. The store is covered in plants and decorations, making it look cozy and comfortable. The children's section has a beautiful mural painted on the wall and a cute nook for the kids to play in. Their staff is also very welcoming and cordial. They always ask if we need help, making people feel valued. Whenever I purchase something at the front desk, they talk with me about the book or item I'm buying. One thing that could bother some people is the pricing. Books here are more expensive than if you were to order from Walmart. This can affect some people's options in the store because they wonder why they would shop here instead of somewhere cheaper. When you buy from a small bookstore, you are supporting a community. Stores like Walmart or Amazon are giant corporations; they don't need your money. The cost of buying a book goes to bettering the store and helping our community, especially with this store that gives to people all the time with public readings and events. This bookstore is phenomenal, and I hope it will be here for...
Read moreA great selection of books and local creations, as well as an emphasis on working with the local talents and authors! However, as a graphic novel fan, I find that unless you are purchasing single comic issues, the selection is quite stagnant. I've seen books stay on the shelves for months at a time, and graphic novels seem to be in plethora, save for the first books in the series which sell out quickly and are rare to appear again. After that, you're left with randomly numbered books in a series that you have no intro to, which can be quite frustrating to come back to over and over again when they don't sell and nothing new is ever coming in.
I genuinely love this store to death, and this is the only criticism I can possibly think of as a fan of a specific genre of books. Otherwise, the staff is truly friendly and helpful, and books of any other type are plentiful! I only wanted to offer this up in hopes of maybe seeing more books of the kind I commonly buy, so I have more...
