The Prescott Courthouse Plaza is a beautiful and unique spot, but it comes with a complex and bittersweet experience. While most people visit the courthouse out of necessity rather than choice, the surrounding plaza offers a surprisingly serene and inviting atmosphere. The well-kept grassy lawns encircle the courthouse, creating a space where people can be seen relaxing, playing with their children, walking their dogs, or simply enjoying the outdoors—something I’ve never seen in other cities around a courthouse. The plaza itself is lovely, featuring a fountain where people toss in change, which is regularly cleaned out. Throughout the year, the space hosts various events, such as festivals and concerts. These events are free to enter, but any additional purchases will cost you. The surrounding area is filled with a variety of stores, restaurants, bars, and more, adding to the appeal of the plaza. Parking in the area isn’t bad, especially during the weekdays when the courthouse is open. There’s ample parking surrounding the courthouse, and while it may not always be easy to find a spot right away, it’s usually possible to park somewhere around the block. However, this might be due to the fact that most people are at work rather than downtown, so your experience might differ during busier times. Now, onto the more complicated part of the experience—dealing with the Prescott Police Department. My personal encounters with them have been far from pleasant. I believe they tend to target the less fortunate, and I’ve had officers lie, arrest me over misunderstandings, and treat me poorly in general. Unfortunately, my interactions with the justice system here have left me feeling disillusioned and frustrated. The police presence is heavy, and I’ve seen them show up in large numbers for something as simple as a traffic stop. The Prescott Courthouse Plaza, with its picturesque surroundings and community events, is indeed a beautiful place—but it carries a dark secret. The justice system here, at least in my experience, is anything but just. This dichotomy between the beauty of the plaza and the harsh reality of the courthouse it surrounds makes for a deeply conflicted experience. It’s a place worth visiting for its charm and events, but it’s hard to ignore the troubling aspects that lie...

The trees in the fall are picturesque.
The grassy area that covers the one square block is perfect for sitting on a blanket with loved ones or pets under the shade of large mature trees. The City will decorate this entire area during Christmas for our hometown Christmas lighting. It's stunning.
