I hate leaving bad reviews especially when a business has a good reputation. I never do, but I feel like I should here. We drove from TN to buy a Chevy Blazer from a guy on marketplace. We always like to get it inspected before we purchase and never had an issue. So I booked an appointment here of course with the intention of paying for a proper service! They told us it was such a great truck, well maintained- a steal!! They said. Ha! Even said we didn’t have to pay. My husbands like are you sure? Oh yeah we don’t charge for nothing like that…
We didn’t test drive it before the guy left that was so stupid on our part. Many mistakes were made. But hey we got an inspection from actual mechanics right!!? Wrong. As soon as we drove off, it was clear this was not a steal. Not maintained at all. Check engine light was on, ABS light on, horn, windows, locks not working. Knocking noise after research we think is a motor mount issue. Screeching on start up. Needs a coolant flush, oil change, new battery. Lots of cosmetics I won’t go into, that doesn’t matter. Not to mention it stormed all night and the doors leaked and the interior is now soaked. I won’t go into all the lies the seller told us but we will focus on the shop.
So I called right after we drove off and asked about the lights. Why are they on? They said they didn’t plug in the scanner—it would’ve cost money for that inspection. Did I not call to book an appointment for an inspection? What inspection did we get? Why would we go through the trouble of scheduling an appointment and bringing a vehicle in if we weren’t expecting and willing to pay for a proper diagnostic? They offered to have us bring it back, but by then it was too late. The seller blocked us, and we were stuck with a vehicle that’s clearly not road-ready. Had they even done the bare minimum—like scanning for codes or noting obvious issues—we would’ve walked away from the deal. Now we’re out the money and I have a vehicle I don’t feel safe driving with my kids.
Maybe they were having a bad day. Maybe too busy. Maybe they thought they were doing us a favor. Maybe because we’re not locals, we weren’t taken seriously... Orrrrr do they know this guy? Hmmm. Whatever the reason, I wouldn't recommend this shop if you're looking for an honest inspection. The results just don't line up with reality. We made mistakes, but trusting this shop was one of the biggest.
In reply to their reply- when I, the paying customer booking the appointment called to request this service, you asked what kind of inspection and I said test drive it and look for major mechanical issues. Why would you take instruction from the seller not booking the appointment when I already made the appointment and gave...
Read moreI first called Bill earlier in the week to schedule an appointment for my truck to get a diagnostic on an ABS sensor coming on. It triggered numerous alerts as it does with traction control, parking aids, etc.
I explained the situation and he walked me through a potential plan in his head on the diagnosis and prognosis of the issues at hand. Based on what my baseline knowledge is from working on my own vehicle, everything made sense and gave me confidence he could take care of my truck.
I can tell you from a customer service standpoint, this small business is better than ford dealership. Knox ford customer service was not bad, but Bill took it to the next level and I got my truck back the same day. It was honestly not what I was expecting, even after he gave me a call with the quote and the timeline.
He never promised anything and got the job done. Bill went above and beyond my expectations. I feel like if I did have concerns, he would have taken the time of day to listen, but luckily I did not have any issues.
The pricing was right where I thought it would be and seemed better than Knox Ford. I did not ask if the parts came with any warranty, but that could be the potential of the price difference. Just an assumption.
Overall, I would take my truck back if something else was to come up and I was not able to fix it myself. I have been to many mechanics throughout various moves and this has been the best experience when dealing with vehicle issues. Bill and his team...
Read moreJoy Automotive truly is the best vehicle maintenance service station in the greater radcliff and Elizabethtown area. Bill and his crew of mechanics, are very welcoming, LIsten to your worries and concerns and treat you with kindness, dignity, and respect.
They are very through in their work and will call you before any work outside of what you asked for has come to their attention. If you happen to be on the premises when they discover a potential issue in the near future, they will bring you over to the vehicle and show you the issue and give you multiple options for the best way to move forward.
I have been going to Joy Automotive for quite a few years now and have NEVER felt that I was being taken advantage of, the work was quickly done or that it was faked (said they did things they clearly didn't do).
Everyone has a bad mechanic story, or one where they felt pressured into getting something done that didn't ask for or need to be done just to make money. Joy Automotive is the exact opposite. Bill is a straight shooter with real business ethics, morale and values. I WILL NOT go to any other mechanic because Joy Automotive has earned my trust...
