If I'm being completely honest, I would say do not live here The rent is very over priced for what you get. They will tell you it is the same as what you pay when living on campus but it is nearly triple that. The rooms are small and very under kept. It took them SIX MONTHS to fix the HVAC in my room. During the warm months it never dropped below 78 in here and in the winter months it wouldn't get above 55. A heater was left in my room by maintenance so I could stay warm until the heat was fixed but the RA took that and told me we aren't allowed to have those in our rooms. Like do they not communicate the information from one department to another? I will say, there are some very nice staff members but there are also awful ones. There is also a cockroach problem. I have had 2 crawl through the air vent but you will see them when walking down the halls or in the stairwells. They tore the window out of my room without notifying me before hand and when I arrived home from work, my personal items were just thrown to the side. There were screws and other materials thrown on my bed WITH MY BLANKETS AND PILLOWS ON THERE. I went to the front desk and they told me that my only option was to move to a different room. It was the middle of the fall semester. I did not want to worry about moving to a new room when I had multiple exams that week. I have stayed here since the Fall of 2019 and have had nothing but problems with this place. I would highly recommend living somewhere else if you can or even staying on campus. You can live at one of the buildings next to UT and pay a FRACTION of the cost and you get your own room as well as a kitchen. Here you are expected to make your food in a microwave or get whatever food they are serving from cloud-9 that day. The food is usually not that great. The laundry situation is awful. There are rarely any washers and dryers available. When you think you have found a free one there is usually clothes in it from 3 days ago that smell awful. The elevators are gross and very sketchy to ride in. People have gotten stuck in them multiple times since I have lived here. They handled the COVID stuff horribly. They refused refunds to everyone for rent and meals. It was "highly suggested" that we move out but they would not give us our money back because they "technically weren't making us move out". They said the only option for the meals was a meal credit that you were given but you could only use there if you are a resident. This screwed over so many people that weren't living here that following year. The parking deck is DISGUSTING. There is trash everywhere and the stairwell smells like urine all the time. There have been multiple times where I have to get out of my car to move BAGS OF TRASH out of the parking spaces. When my car was hit in the parking deck, I was told that there was nothing they could do to help me because they can't access the security camera footage right then. And then it changed to they only have cameras at the entrance and exit to the parking deck. My car was on the first level where the entrance camera is in clear view of where I was parked. I have tried to cancel my lease since the fall 2020 semester because none of my classes are in-person now and I was told either way you have to pay the rest of the lease even if you aren't going to live here. The pool and other amenities you are promised are basically shut down. During the warm months, they wouldn't let us use the pool but for like a week and then they shut it down again. We are in the middle of midterms right now and they shut my roommates internet off for no reason. She had to pay them to cut it back on. They also don't do anything about noise complaints during quiet hours. There have been multiple occasions where I have been studying or taking exams and had to complain about neighbors being too loud. It literally did nothing. The staff didn't even try to help. I really hope you choose to live somewhere else so you don't have to go through any of the...
Read moreFirst off I would like to say that I did not choose to live here. I was placed here by NC state. I would NEVER under any circumstance decide to live here again or reccomend that anyone live here.
The issues started immediately when we moved in. My roommate and I moved into our assigned room and we immediately had issues. Our air conditioner was broken and the light above my bed would not work. We submitted work orders for these issues. The air conditioning was fixed that day but I had to submit several work orders about my light and It took until October before someone finally fixed it. We have had many other issues including our air conditioning unit breaking numerous times, the blinds falling off of the window a few times and our fridge failing. While all of these issues have been fixed they were not done so in a timely manor and or any concern for the situation.
Parking is another HUGE issue. I drive a large vehicle and had to purchase an oversized spot which costs more than a regular spot in the parking deck. This oversized spot has been specifically assigned to me by number. My oversized spot is the smallest in the parking deck while other smaller vehicles were given larger spots. There are also other vehicles constantly parked in my assigned spot which leaves me no where to park in the parking deck I paid almost $1000 to park in for the academic year. If I bring this to the attention of the staff they do not do anything about it in a timely manor and I often have to park in the pay to park spaces on Hillsborough street or in the Dan Allen parking deck.
There is also no ventilation in our bathroom that has caused a few issues. Our bathroom ceiling is flaking off and there is mold growing on the shower and around some parts of the ceiling. When this has been brought to the attention of management they have done absolutely nothing about it.
I was also forced to purchase a meal plan for their dining hall even though I did not want it. These meal plans are expensive and in my opinion not worth it. Living here outside of the NC state master lease is also insanely expensive. I could live in a 1 bedroom at a brand new off campus apartment with much better amenities, management and higher build quality for less.
This is why I would not reccomend university towers to...
Read moreI just finished my freshman year at NC State where i lived at University Towers, and I have decided to live here again for a second year. Like the other reviews say, the food is better than on-campus food. We have the BEST salad bar!!! We also have a specialty bar that serves different venues of food daily, and a wonderful deli bar on top of that.
The rooms are a lot bigger than ANY rooms on campus, and we have maids that come every other week. We are the only dorm this close to campus that has a pool and sand volleyball court that are maintained and attract all types of attention. Although having to pay for laundry stinks, it could be worse. I do wish there were more washers and dryers ( you learn quickly that Saturday morning is not the time to wash...thats when everyone else thinks to do so!)
When it comes to parking, I got a pass for on campus and i just park a little farther from UT. Its cheaper than UT's parking deck and a little bit more spacious. What i did like about UT was its security gate for the parking deck--unless you have a pass, you cannot even get into the deck.
Besides all this, the deciding factor for me was the safety of UT. Having a paid employee at the front desk all day and an armed security guard at night makes one feel a lot better about living in Raleigh. Although UT is know for its fraternity and sorority people, there are assigned quiet floors (7th floor) where from 10pm -7am no noise is allowed. I would disagree with anyone who said UT is louder than other dorms. There are just as many Greek Kids on campus as off. I love living at UT, you just have to be willing to work with a...
