I really don't want to write this review but unfortunately I have to.. I'll say right away that I'm going to ignore minor things like waiting times, number of calls, etc. And I also want to clarify that I know that when working with colors there is a lot of room for confusion and emotions usually play a big role, and that some things are understandable since they usually happen. I'm a 24-year-old man with short hair, I work as an actor and musician, I had a role to fulfill and look appropriate and I couldn't thanks to this experience. At the beginning I called to book an appointment, they told me to send references of the hair I wanted and I did. They gave me an appointment pretty quickly at 1:30pm with the budget already agreed upon, then another call told me that the appointment was at 3:30pm and the budget had increased by 20%, after that the appointment ended up being at 4:30pm. I arrived at the place and met Anali, a girl who treated me well and worked with me until late night to finish my hair. It turned out that the quote for the job had increased once again, this time by 30% for a total of 50% more than what we had initially agreed upon. Unfortunately, after 4 hours my hair did not look at all like I had shown, we started with one color in mind and then we switched to another brown-ish cause seems like the tone wasn't picking up, that's what she told me, the only thing that I wanted was to lighten the base color and keep some highlights that I already had, I ended up with a brown/ashy uniform color throughout my hair, which was not looking like the second reference (brown-ish) color neither. When I went to pay it turned out that I had been charged for a blowout that did not happen, when I pointed that out they wanted to compensate that by saying that the service that I got was $280 PER HOUR and we spent 4 HOURS there, so they wanted to charge me +$1.000 for messing up my hair, like wtf? Lol. Anyways, it was a computer error that we could not fix and I ended up paying it anyway because it was the same amount that we had already agreed upon as soon as I arrived at the salon, basically, and I still gave them a good tip. The next morning (yesterday) I called to get an appointment to fix the color because it had turned out bad, they answer pretty fast and kindly gave me an appointment in 20 minutes. I arrived and told her once again that I wanted this type of color and hair and I showed her some reference photos. Almost 2 hours went by and when I finished my hair was practically orangy-blonde, when I told the expert that it didn't look the way I wanted it to look, she told me that in order for it to look like the photo we would have to do another process that would cost me more, I had already paid +$350 and I had been sitting for more than 6 hours on 2 different days at that time. It really felt like they were trying to upsell me services all the time, which was annoying. I expressed all of this summarized by messages to the people who attended me, Leslie, and she called me half an hour later to tell me that they were very sorry that the color and the process had not been the right ones and that the estimates they gave me kept changing and apparently they were not the right ones either. I told them that I did not plan on wasting any more time and that I wanted the solution to be either fix my hair or give me a refund, so I could go as soon as possible to another specialist who could fix it. They stopped answering me and I haven't received any callbacks, I lost money, time and job opportunities. If you need your hair to look good for you to be able to work then book an appointment at...
Read moreTLDR: Wasted a lot of $$$ for incomplete work, expected to pay for the fix, and the owner's response was, "Maybe this salon isn't in your budget." Excuse me??
Bummed to be writing this, especially when my stylist was great to work with and generally understanding, but boy does the owner need to work on their customer service. I've never walked away more disappointed from a salon.
I got my bleached undercolor retouched before the holidays and the retouch is legitimately orange. I scheduled another appointment expecting it to be fixed for no charge, but upon arrival, I was told I would have to pay the full service cost again, but they'd offer a 10% discount... This is completely unacceptable for a service that was not done correctly from the get-go.
Their reasoning was that they have a 7-day grace period. I understand that policy, and I understand why they would push on it at first. Unfortunately, that policy wasn't communicated to me (due to some technical glitches which they're aware of) and I have proof the color wasn't set less than a week after the appointment anyways. Because of the year-end holidays and travel, I scheduled a 2nd appointment as soon as I could've, which was two weeks after the first one.
Unfortunately, when I spoke to the owner Olivia, she was uninterested and made it out to seem like I was trying to take advantage of them, saying "unhappy people don't wait this long." Well yes, they do when they can't physically be there during a period when businesses are also usually closed. And why would I voluntarily take 2+ hours out of my schedule to drive to the salon and re-bleach my roots again in two weeks if I was happy??
I just moved to this area, so I've gotten this style done at other salons with no issues and never experienced something like...
Read moreWhile in Rancho Palos Verdes for business, I wanted a new hairstyle from California to take back with me. (I always have my hair cut while in this state to have a more edgy style than I can get in my own Southern state.) Searching all the hair salons in the area, and reading all of the five star reviews on Yelp — I knew Palma Hair Salon was a match for me. Although the small strip mall where they were located looked older, the neighborhood is high end. And the inside of this spotless salon bore beautiful decor! I felt as if I had glided into a field of great energy when I entered the salon—it seemed as if all the patrons and stylists were smiling! I had booked my appointment online — specifically for a cut for a short hair style. But, once I showed photos of what I wanted to the hair stylist I had booked with- she kindly shared that the photos of what I wanted best matched the work of one of their other stylists —named Liz. (How refreshing to find an employee put the wants and needs of a client above their own pay! The owner of this salon hires the best!)
Although I was not on Liz’s calendar (and she her own clients coming in within an hour) she was excited to help me! Liz used the latest of techniques to provide body, lift, movement and texture to my limp, straight hair. My hair look better that those on the photos I had shared with her! For older women (I am approaching 70) the youthful style Liz created took years off my image—-all for a reasonable price!
Forget trying to find the best Hair Stylist in Palos Verdes, I recommend a Hair StyleLIZ instead! (Liz the whiz of short hair cuts!)
And forget hair drama (or hair like your mama) it’s worth the drive to...
