I recently visited Ko-Ryu ramen and was quite disappointed with my experience. I ordered the Garlic Bomb Ramen with spicy miso broth. On a previous visit, I had ordered this broth with a spice level of 3 (on a scale of 5). This time, the waitress informed me that the spice level goes up to 20, so I decided to try level 10, assuming it would be a medium spice level. However, the ramen was unbearably spicy—completely inedible.
To salvage the meal, we ordered extra broth with a spice level of 0 and mixed it in, but even then, the spice was overwhelming. We were drinking glasses of ice-cold water and literally sweating while trying to manage the spice. A waiter noticed our struggle and asked if we were okay. We explained the situation, and he said he would inform the waitress. Despite this, she didn’t bother to check in on us or offer any assistance. Instead, she seemed more concerned about closing the restaurant rather than ensuring a good dining experience.
I appreciate restaurants offering spice options, but there should be better guidance on what the spice levels actually mean. A level that is supposed to be “medium” shouldn’t be so extreme that even after diluting, it remains too spicy to eat. On top of the poor food experience, the waitress’s attitude was unacceptable. Basic courtesy would be to check if everything was okay, especially after a complaint was passed on to her. Unfortunately, that never happened. Very disappointing service and overall a...
Read moreWe tried this restaurant one week after it opened. We tried the garlic pork ramen at the Ko-Ryu in Torrance ealier this year and found the fiod to be superb, so we were excited to try the same dish here in Rancho Palos Verdes on Western Ave.
As we entered the restaurant the restaurant was filled to near capacity. The inside decor looked great. The Staff was very friendly and helpful.
We ordered the garlic bomb ramen. Previously we ordered the same dish from the Torrance restaurant on Hawthorne Blvd.
We are pleased to say the taste and presentation were just the same. This is very good news for Ko-Ryu.
The soup was robust with rich flavor. The noodles were properly cooked and the pork? PHENOMENAL! tasty and tender.
We also ordered Takoyaki balls which had a piece of octopus inside. The taste was okay, one Takoyaki ball had no octopus in it. Overall, we would rate the Takoyaki ball a 5.
Overall experience was very good!!
