SEPHORA at Kohl's — Local services in Redondo Beach

Dear Sephora Customer Service,

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the experience I had yesterday, September 14th, 2024, at the Sephora inside Kohl's located at 1799 Hawthorne Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA 90278.

As a regular customer of Sephora, both online and in-store, I was deeply offended by what I believe was clear racial profiling.

Upon entering the store, I was greeted by three staff members. I politely smiled back and continued browsing, minding my own business. However, all three staff members promptly disappeared, leaving only one woman who proceeded to closely monitor my every move.

Shortly after, a tall man wearing a red jacket with "Loss Prevention" written on it entered the store. He, too, began to intently watch me as I shopped and added items to my basket, which is provided by the store for customer convenience.

The situation escalated further when I approached the cash register to pay for my items. I looked around for a cashier but found none available. It was at this point that I noticed this individual blocking the store entrance and exit, seemingly restricting my movement.

After waiting for approximately ten minutes at the cash register, a cashier finally arrived. The loss prevention personnel followed her and continued to closely observe me throughout the entire checkout process, making me feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. This experience effectively ruined my shopping trip.

I was interested in browsing for eyeshadow and other products, but the blatant surveillance made me feel like a criminal. As a result, I simply wanted to pay and leave the store as quickly as possible. It is safe to say I won't be returning to this location.

I urge Sephora to take immediate action to address racial profiling and ensure a welcoming shopping environment for all customers, regardless of their race or ethnicity. I look forward to your response and a proposed course of action to rectify this...
