I waited for my order for 9 months. Of the 8 pieces of furniture I ordered, 5 pieces were custom Amish furniture (hence the long waiting time). First fragilePAK, the freight delivery company, tried to leave all the furniture being delivered inside the shipping boxes, unopened, in the hallway outside my unit. When I then refused delivery, they were suddenly willing to open the container boxes and properly deliver the furniture inside my place as per the white glove contract. They were paid to set up the furniture inside the home. The craftsmanship was great for the 5 pieces of Amish furniture.
Unfortunately, the bottom of the dresser had a broken and cracked base, the 2 nightstands were scratched on top and the front, the wood on the side of the mirror was damaged and the corner of it was broken off. So 4 of the 5 Amish pieces were damaged on arrival to my home. In addition, 2 of the other 3 pieces were damaged. One shelving piece had an unfinished upper shelf (so very visible) and one bookshelf was broken.
They delivered 6 damaged pieces of the 8 delivered items. In addition, they failed to deliver the bottles of furniture oil that I had paid for. I had tried to refuse the delivery from fragilePAK once I saw the damages, but the delivery drivers refused to take back the items.
It took me over a month of almost daily calls or e-mails to finally have the moving company come and pick up all the furniture and return the items to Hoot Judkins in California. I don't understand why I as the customer was placed in the position of this calling and e-mailing to get all the damaged items out of my home and returned to the store.
I had lived out of suitcases and boxed for 10 months. Hoot Judkins offered to have a repair person come to my home to try and fix the damages. As an asthmatic I cannot have the chemicals in my home, so I refused this option.
Once Hoot Judkins received the returned furniture the store refunded my furniture costs, but they have refused to refund the shipping costs I paid for. The furniture was shipped to the East Coast by fragilePAK, a moving company arranged by Hoot Judkins.
The only reason I refused the items was because 6 of the 8 items they sent me were damaged. Since they failed to provide products in good condition, I fail to understand how the store can refuse to refund the approximately $1,300 that I paid for shipping charges. Hoot Judkins Furniture referred to the sales contract that they said states that the money for shipping is non-refundable. However, they did not provide me with the new furniture I purchased in acceptable condition.
In addition the store had the use of my money while I waited for delivery of the items. I did not receive any interest on the thousands of dollars they held while I waited for the furniture; I was reimbursed for the furniture only after the store received the returned broken or damaged furniture. They held portions of my money for over 10 months.
The store sent 6 out of 8 damaged items PLUS failed to send the purchased furniture polish bottles, yet they denied a reimbursement of the shipping charges. I purchased new furniture. They delivered damaged merchandise. I as a customer only refused items provided because they were damaged and not in acceptable condition. If I wanted replacements, it would have been another 9 months without a dresser, nightstands and bookshelves with no guarantee of a safe delivery.
Based upon this experience I would never do business with Hoot Judkins...

For 2 days, Ninette worked closely with me to ensure that I will get the custom red oak oval coffee table with drawer, shelf and with my chosen hardware and chosen finish. She also recommended Parawood chairs whose colors would complement the coffee table. I really appreciated Ninetteās time and expertise. To make things easy for me, Ninette took the time to email photos of the hardware selection, a photo of how my chosen hardware would look on my drawer, as well as photos of alternative Parawood chairs since I didnāt like the distressed look of the Parawood chair that I was originally interested in.These visual aids and Ninetteās recommendations were so helpful. Also, Ninette helped me to order the Parawood microwave cart in the oak finish that wasnāt in stock. Fortunately, my items were on sale. Ninette pointed out that I will receive a discount of $150 because my purchase was at least $1500. I was so happy to hear that! Thanks to Ninette, my shopping experience with Hoot Judkins was a very pleasant, positive and seamless one. In fact, this was the best retail shopping experience I have ever had in my life. Iām a senior, so that says a lot! Ninette is THE BEST! I am so glad that Hoot Judkins Furniture has solid wood furniture at reasonable prices. Iām also happy that Hoot Judkins has Ninette as their Interior Designer. Ninette is an asset to Hoot Judkins and she should be recognized and acknowledged for the wonderful job that she is doing. Because I wanted special hardware, the furniture had to be special ordered, so, unfortunately, I had to wait until the beginning of May to get the furniture delivered. Nick from Hoot Judkins was very responsive with me via text all along the way to keep me updated on when the furniture would be delivered so that I could control my excitement to the right levels at the right time and not set myself up for disappointment. š When we got the furniture, the left top drawer in the dresser had a bigger gap between the top of the drawer and the shelf because of an unevenness in my floor. I texted Nick that I knew it would drive me crazy and that I was unhappy with it. He didnāt treat me like I was a difficult or annoying customer. Rather, he sent a technician to my house who fixed the problem two days later. The technician, Joseph, was super patient with me, asked for my feedback, and adjusted the drawers to my liking (fixing the left drawer meant the other drawers had to be slightly adjusted in a chain reaction toward the right). Now my dresser looks perfect, and I couldnāt be happier! Iāve lived in an apartment with my husband for over 20 years and we have had mismatched and bad-quality bedroom furniture the entire time.
