The staff at David's Bridal were very friendly and accommodating throughout my three visits; maybe somewhat 'plastic' - but I'm sure that's how they're trained.
I purchased a wedding dress on clearance from David's Bridal; it was two sizes too big. Their staff knew - because several associates told me! - it would clearly need alterations. I later learned - which is the issue - that staff are 'supposed to' (and should be required!) prior to a purchase to provide the Bride with an estimate of any anticipated costs due to alterations- both those necessary, or those requested by the customer. Especially on a clearance item that cannot be returned!!! I was only told it would be 'more expensive'; vague terms than can be wildly variable. No one offered to have one of their tailors speak with me (who are employed on site) and I'm not at all knowledgable as to the costs associated with alterations and customization of a wedding gown.
One month later, I met with a David's Bridal tailor and learned I would be paying over four times what I paid for the dress itself for the alterations. The tailor was the only person who advised me that the salesperson 'should have' told me of the additional costs and, ideally, had an onsite tailor give me a quick estimate. None of the salespeople did, and I had interactions with, I think, at least five associates? Learning this after at alterations should not occur!
Additionally, I was told that some of the changes I wished to make (altering the high neckline to a v-neck, for example) was absolutely 'not possible' and that 'no one can alter that unnoticeably with the design and detailing of this dress'. Obviously, had I known that, I would have continued shopping rather than - again - make a clearance purchase I was unable to return.
On the way home I stopped at Professional Tailor, recalling that the owner; Thien Mai, had perfectly altered two jackets for me years ago. She asked me immediately to bring in the dress; quoted me a comparable price, and asked many more detailed questions (such as, how high would I need to raise my arms for dancing- something I never thought of...?) She explained the alterations process far more completely, which helped me understand the reasons for the associated costs. She also stated she could make the alterations that David's Bridal stated were 'not possible', and gave me a much earlier date for a first fitting and final product.
When I returned for the second fitting I was truly speechless; I could not believe how perfectly my wedding gown - altered and customized by Professional Tailor in Burnsville MN - fit! No one would ever know that it wasn't originally made just for me, with every alteration and every customization executed perfectly. I was advised that 'not every tailor has the training to do this type of work'. Customers would presume, however, that such a level of training would be available - if not expected - from a nationwide company that specializes in the sale and altering of wedding gowns, like 'David's Bridal'?
I am so grateful that I instead entrusted Professional Tailor at Burnsville Mall in Burnsville MN with the customization of my wedding dress. I would highly, highly recommend their services to anyone... their alterations, timely delivery, and especially customer service - which was extremely genuine - were unparalleled.
Get a second opinion regarding your wedding dress alterations. My strong recommendation would be an appointment with Professional Tailor. I have my dress weeks ahead of when I would have had it from David's Bridal. I paid similar pricing, price, BUT with every single customization I wanted - completed to perfection. Anyone asking about my dress will be strongly encouraged to bring their business to Professional Tailor at Burnsville Mall, for reasons immediately apparent in their craftsmanship.
The small business definitely wins here... while a larger, nationwide company certainly has more resources to provide this level of customer service, I'd have to say, they are leagues...
Read moreAlterations Manager was amazing. I was booked with 4 other girls with my stylist the day I scheduled for. I had to follow the stylist around looking for someone else who could help one of us. I ended up waiting by Alterations and the Manager helped me and she was awesome. She offered to have my dress hemmed in a matter of weeks and I picked it up and it is perfect. My bridesmaids experiences were not so good. One felt forced to pay for expedited shipping and still received it later than promised so she had to Pau extra for Alterations. My other bridesmaid was given the wrong size and they told her it rarely happens but that she could repurchase the dress, pay to have it sent back, and then get a refund for the 1st purchase within 14 days. She is too sweet so she disnt fight it and paid to get it sent back. Then she was only given a partial refund of $117 instead of the $160. She paid expedited shipping the first time and they charged her again this 2nd time.. even though it was their mistake. Then I ordered 3 pairs of shoes and purses for the bridesmaids along with oh maybe $600 worth of accessories and gifts. Amd the 3 shoes showed up damaged and missing rhinestones and and etc. They tried to pull the same thing on me with shipping back and repurchasing first and getting a refund 14 days later. I said nope this is your faults for sending me bad shoes so I need to speak to a supervisor. They tried to deter me and said it would take 48 hrs to escalate but I said I don't care you need to fix this I'll wait within 10 mins the supervisor had emailed me a return label and sent new shoes no recharge. So again, a headache indeed if they screw up your orders for anything not in store. My Alterations lady was 5 stars, but the rest of the experiencew was a 3 star if that. Just be prepared in case this...
Read moreThey were amazing. I was very grateful for their help in store. Very kind and I found my dream dress right away and they got it all taken care of for me and got me booked for alterations and everything already. Very grateful for going into the store. Don't order offline. I did that first and they didn't have my dress and the color of the size that I needed all the sudden it wouldn't have been here in time. So thank you to the people inside the store.
UPDATE: They were awesome the first time. Then I went in for My dress fitting in alterations. The lady that was doing my alterations. She was horrible. She wasn't even wanting to do her job. She kept getting irritated because the other lady wouldn't help her. But the manager at that store is awesome. She helped me and then the other lady that was there who must have been training. This girl in was there and stepped in to help but the one that I worked with I would not recommend her the other one though she was amazing but it she almost ruined my whole appointment and I got to the point where I was about to literally just walk out of there and just take my dress and leave it and never go back there again. Take away stars but the manager stepped in and made it better an same with the other lady that was helping but the one that was pinning it up HORRIBLE she also picked me with a pin an I had one go in my foot. Then it cost me even more cause I said I needed a 16 they gave me a 18 dress an then charged me $400 to alter it cause they didn't listen to me. When I went back in to finally get my dress the last time here nobody even bothered to help me. They put it in a room and didn't even tell me the room was ready. I'm just over it. Definitely would not recommend this store and will never come back here again. I rate...
