Little known fact: you DON'T HAVE to be named Michael to get in here... Seriously, they dont even check! If artsy-schmartsy was a real word, I'd use it to describe this place... But sadly, it's not a real word, so I'll just say that these guys have tons of artsy stuff (very little schmartsy stuff though in retrospect). The Riverton location has a jaunty collection of nearly any craft you might think you want to try... Like art stuff or... We'll, I'll be honest I didnt actually look at anything but the art stuff... But I can tell you that it was pretty artsy. Pack a snack (a Snack-Pack seems appropriate here) and spend the afternoon browsing the aisles here... This store is big enough to (probably) have what you need but not so big that you'll get lost (probably... I dont know what sort of adventuring skills you might have... For all I know, you are terrible with directions and wind up making camp in the flower department, and go a little mad talking to the framed pictures of other people, contemplating eating the modeling clay for sustenance while you spend the night waiting for a search party to come find you the next day, huddled under balls of yarn,...
Read moreI am usually a fan of Michales, however I was slightly disappointed on my last trip. My wife and I ordered online and went to the store to pick up. Granted we showed up before our confirmation email. However we explained we were out on the neighborhood and was curious if we could have our order. It was frustrating to see the 3 items we selected in a cart behind the cashier, but could not grab our paid for items because it had not been put through their system completely. The attendant told us that she had to process our transaction in the order it was received and that it would be a few more hours before they could check us out. We knew it wasnât her fault but it was annoying to have our order 3 feet from us with no way to get our items. 10 minutes into our drive home we get a confirmation email that our online order is ready to be picked up lol. Fortunately we were able to turn right back around and get the...
Read moreWent here for the first time while looking for puzzles and puzzle glue. I enjoy craft stores and browsed for other things as well. I am a 55 year-old Asian male, so perhaps I looked suspicious to the employees. But for whatever reason, there was a taped announcement that followed me to certain areas of the store. I am paraphrasing, but it said something like, "thank you for shopping in the art supplies department." Initially I thought that this is a clever way to let shoplifters know that your presence is known. However after a while, I noticed that the announcement was following me throughout the store and that I never heard it play for anyone else.
Perhaps it was just coincidence; I don't really know the reason with 100% certainty, but it didn't exactly make me feel very welcome at Michaels. I went to Hobby Lobby to get my puzzle glue and my wife cleaned up on post-Christmas supplies that were deeply discounted, so...
