If you are visiting or passing by Salt Lake City area and looking to have delicious, soul satisfying, mouthwatering Indian food but also not burn a hole in your pocket, then the restaurant Saffron Circle is the place to head to, particularly their Riverton Utah location.
My partner and I were there few days ago while visiting SLC, and had the best experience ever. The restaurant was super busy & packed, we knew why later - the awesome food is proof for it. In spite of being busy Vaishnavi one of the staff members did an exceptional job of communicating, and managing about 15 new guests waiting to get a table. She was clear in her communication and provided a correct estimate of the wait time. She even did an awesome job of taking care of different requests that were coming in for take-out orders at the same time.
We were able to get a table in about ten minutes of getting there. Vaishnavi did a great job of taking down our order and even made sure to confirm the chronology in which we wanted our dishes to be brought to the table, which typically isn’t a detail one pays much attention to especially during rush hour or when a business is short staffed.
The food was amazing, every dish we ordered was made perfectly and the presentation was beautiful. Again, I need to mention this because though they were busy, the chefs and restaurant staff made sure the taste and quality of the dishes did not receive the brunt of it.
We also got the opportunity to have a short chat with the restaurant owner (forgot to ask his name), and got to hear about the history of their business. He was friendly, and open to all feedback/comments we had to offer which is a good sign for a business.
The decor/interiors in the restaurant are also tastefully done, I have to mention the retro Bollywood movie posters in the restroom! Cool idea, and a great way to take a walk down memory lane.
Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants to add to your list to visit in the U.S. Special mention and many thanks to Vaishnavi and her team for managing so well and making sure customers were not disappointed. You guys need to have more locations of Saffron Circle especially in other parts of the country, not just in Utah :)
Thank you for making our experience so memorable, we are glad we decided to get dinner at Saffron...
Read moreFirst impression, a see-thru kitchen, that takes a lot of confidence to show it off! I like that! The decor is modern and wonderful here, unlike other places where the lighting is poor and you can barely read the menu ugh.. Service was alright, the manager/greeter showed great hospitality at the beginning and checked on us after we had finished eating. Albeit, our waitress forgot to bring straws that we have asked for, and four of our orders got mixed up. Mistakes do happen.. The thing that made me give you 3 stars regardless of the wow factor and the "good" service in overall, is the food quality. I like to consider myself an Indian food connoisseur, and I am used to the heat that is inherent to Indian food. I deemed this elaborate review worth writing because I owe you guys some constructive criticism. The Naan and the Roti were okay. The samosa was a major disappointment, tasteless.. bland.. The Biryani was not done right, I think it was the rice. The chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Vindaloo were for some reason sweet, they should not! Maybe they lacked enough tomatoes acidity that usually offsets the sweetness of the coconut milk. Because this was my first time, I decided to be cautious and I requested a mild Lamb Vindaloo, well.. I was served a very spicy one, that's two grades above what I requested. I usually can handle from mild to medium, but man that was too much fuego! I could not finish it. I believe that spiciness is subjective, mild to one is spicy to another. At the end I ordered a side of rice to go, which is not a lot.. and I think that $3.50 is very steep. To end this review with a high note, the Mango Lassi is a must order here, very good!...
Read moreWe were kicked out as soon as as we finished our meal because they "needed our table"
Arrived at 5, sat at 515, we not even greeted until closer to 530 (and I use the word greeted generously). We were grumpily asked what we wanted. We were not asked if we wanted anything to drink. Had to run someone down for a diet coke. The server was not friendly at all. He seemed annoyed by our questions. The vibe of the whole place was tense with lots of grumpy faces on the staff.
The food was decent. Certainly nowhere close to the best Indian food in the valley, but the flavors were OK. We were ignored for most of our time there until it came time to pay the bill. We and the other couple we were with paid. And while I was still picking at the food our server came back and tried to get us to pay again. We told him we already paid and then he told us that we needed to leave because they needed the table. We were speechless and embarrassed and quickly gathered our things to leave. We were not asked if we wanted any to go boxes. On the way out we noticed several empty tables and maybe 10 people in the lobby waiting.
We spent over $100 on our meals and were at our table for maybe an hour... And a decent portion of that was us waiting to be interacted with. If you want to impose a time limit, then post it on the door or online. I did not see anyone being asked to leave. We were not being loud or disrespectful. We said thank you every time anyone brought us anything. We were simply trying to enjoy an evening out with friends. For $100 + in revenue it is pretty messed up to be kicking people out. We will never be back and we will tell...
