Final Update with this Saga. My family and I went to have a nice dinner before a movie, I wanted something special because we hadn't gone out in a little while. The food, service and length of time was an extreme disappointment. I gave a one star review and received an automated response from their automated system and it gave an email to contact their manager. I did send an email and did not hear back, I called a week after I sent that email, I was put on hold, waited for 10 min and then had to hang up Sent another email the next day, no response, then I decided to update my review, I kept it negative and this time I got a response from the manager Elliott. He apologized told me I got lost in a pile of 150 emails. Offered to comp a meal for 2, there's 3 of us. So that made me feel like he didn't read the email I sent. Said not thanks, asked about a refund he said all he could do was comp a meal for 2. I told Elliott that I had reached to corporate and was going to handle it with them. I reached out to corporate waited a week and got no response. I became extremely agitated at the fact that, Kona Grill and their corporate owner The One Group Hospitality Inc would not respond. I managed to find the email address for Kevin he is the regional manager. He contacted me on his day off, while traveling and having life happened to him. He listened, apologized and seem to genuinely care about our plight. Kevin made me feel heard and cared for, I can't say enough good things about the way Kevin interacted with me. He offered not only to comp the meal for the 3 of us but also told me to bring my wife, she originally was not with us, she was out of town. He offered to personally take care of us since he was going to be in town and roll out the red carpet. We decided to decline his offer, for me it's to hard to overlook the treatment we got the first time, it took 2 hrs to get our food, our server came to table 4 times during that period, our fish and chips burnt, steak way undercooked and mediocre pasta, 218 dollars with tip is a very hard pill to swallow and hard to forget also it made us late for our movie we missed the first 15 min. Due to all of this I called Kevin and declined his offer and he right away wanted to refund my money, I also declined that option since the Experience has been so horrible and I am the one making all the effort and the treatment that I received from Elliott and his staff just makes want to move on and forget about Kona Grill altogether. Elliot should have offered to make a refund or at least listen to the fact that there was 3 of us at dinner but he decided not to and offered dinner for 2, I was wondering if was going to pick who stays home. Overall I am please that such a good guy like Kevin took the time to make me feel like I mattered, I know he is more preoccupied with many other things and he made no excuse about how many emails he gets a week, he made me a priority and that in my book is priceless. There should be consequences to all of our actions. Thanks to Elliott's response we will never go back to Kona Grill regardless of who pays and I will not recommend it to anyone. Still I do thank Kevin he was able to give me closure.. Too bad I never got an answer from my email...
Read moreMy wife took me here for a father's day brunch with our kids. We arrived at our scheduled time of 12:15 PM. We were sat right away with no problem. After this it went downhill. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. Most of the drinks ordered were brought out fairly timely except the coffee that was ordered. It took about 10 minutes after the other drinks to come out. It took about 35 minutes before our appetizer was brought out. We ordered some berries/bananas and cream that was supposed to be strawberries with shortbread and a sauce. When it was finally brought out it was raspberries with pancakes. We decided to not say anything about the pancakes, but our kids wanted strawberries. The waiter argued that it just comes with berries until we showed him the menu that specifically said strawberries. After this they did bring us some strawberries. About 15 minutes into our wait for the appetizers we had ordered our main courses. We finished the appetizer and started the wait for our main courses. This ended up being an hour and a half before our food arrived. Several tables around had the same issue and were being very vocal about the situation. The manager didn't come to a single table to explain to anyone what was happening during this entire time and we actually overheard him complaining to a hostess about people complaining to him about not having their food after a 90 minute wait. Our waiter was decent and kept telling us that their kitchen is really struggling today and can't seem to figure out their special menu. Once we finally received our meal I went to dig into my eggs benedict when I noticed there was no ham on them. I called the waiter over and let him know. He again apologized and said that he can't believe the kitchen didn't give any ham with it. He then returned about 5 minutes later with a plate full of sausage and said that he wanted to give me something because he felt bad and they were remaking the ham. After another 15 minutes with receiving no ham we decided to just check out and leave because we were already 45 minutes late to another activity the kids had scheduled for father's day. They removed the eggs benedict from our check, but I felt like that wasn't sufficient for completely messing up our entire day. I sent an e-mail letting them know about this situation. I wasn't expecting anything other than a response saying sorry for this and that they expect better, but instead I never received any response at all. It seems like management there doesn't care about their customer's experience enough to even apologize when they are having major issues while you are there or to respond about it after you reach out after the...
Read moreI was extremely disappointed in my visit here to be honest. I had heard some good things from people who had come before, but my experience was very lackluster.
I came to celebrate my 20th birthday with my dad and really ended up quite sad at the meal(don't get me wrong the celebration was nice, but I'm reviewing the restaurant here)
It took about 20 minutes from when we were sat down for a waiter to end up speaking with us(we didn't even get water/drinks until then) it seemed they had missed us until a waiter finally noticed(props to him, I don't think we were in his section & he just tookover as he noticed us not having anything yet. Honestly great service from him in that regard. He also helped take off a charge for something they had ran out of[ordered Brussel sprouts, ended up with Asparagus] and ended up subbing something else with. Also got a little more taken off too since we had to wait so long. Again props, he was great.)
Food itself though(at least for me) was lacking. I got the perfect pair, which includes a 6oz filet, lobster tail, whipped potatoes, and sweet chili green beans for $65. Yeah I wouldn't pay 20 for what I got to be honest. Plate came out really hot, and the food itself was smaller than expected, overcooked(ordered medium rare, got medium well) and quite dry. Makes me think they gave it to Chef Mike(The microwave). Most flavorful/best part was the beans - which were actually pretty decent, but like come on... That shouldn't be the best part of a Surf & Turf.
Tried some of the Asparagus & Sushi too(rainbow) which were just alright. Better than my Surf & Turf for sure. Not by much though.
Overall, I imagine I just got a bad day for them, but still a little unacceptable. Staff was fairly good, food was bad. Really not worth the price at all. Atmosphere was alright, didn't really love the McDonalds ads on the TVs though.
If you're trying to go somewhere nice, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Given all the positive reviews I don't imagine they're all bad, and I expect I had somewhat of an outlier experience--however it did still happen and it was quite terrible.
Save your money is what I would say, even if they're at the top of their game, I don't think they'll be worth it for their sky high prices. Try for someplace more local is what I would probably say, rather than a nationwide chain like this.
Had a good birthday, despite them though, but like again... come on. I generally don't give bad reviews & I feel I'm fairly forgiving(yeah I bet everyone says this, I know), but price for value here was straight up bad in my experience. I'd be willing to give it another shot, but it might...
