Blue Eagle Credit Union is ONE OF A KIND. They have helped me and my family multiple times tremendously in LESS than a year. Everyone of the Blue Eagle team is Awesome and a pleasure to speak with but I have personally worked with Peter Nero at the Hershberger location in Roanoke, VA. I needed a new car he set me up for success with no hesitation and also thoroughly explained to me the steps I needed to complete to get there, once I completed everything on my end I had a new car within 2 months plus a 1000.00 credit line that I never thought I would have. I recently fell into a crunch with a new venture in life but I was to embarrassed to call because I had been doing so good with my finances and I didnt want to let the bank down, At the time I had no idea how I was going come up with the money for my car payment and credit line he reached out to me out of the blue and was very genuine with my concerns, he had a listening ear and then he gave me a few options, HIS OPTIONS ARE ALWAYS FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF ME. I picked one and he then started working on the issue immediately. Also Keeping me informed on the whole process. He didn't mind explaining and answering all questions that I had, I never feel like I'm calling to much with my concern. Then Guess What? In less than 24 hours he SAVED me once again. He does everything in his power to help his customer's be setup for success. I HAVE NEVER HAD A BANK GENUINELY CARE about there customer as much as they have. I literally broke down in tears and started calling all of my family and friends to tell them the blessing that was just given to me. Read moreI've been with this credit union since the 90s when it was Southwestern Telco FCU, and merged with the post office credit union in the late 2000s to become Blue Eagle Credit Union, so I'm a pretty seasoned customer to share my opinion. The call center is okay.... 😖 What I've noticed over the years that I don't agree with is they tend to create a quick remedy, under the pretense of customer satisfaction, by bandaiding an issue without digging for the root of the problem. Like putting on a bandage but not cleaning it first. Thus, Blue Eagle's issues tend to be recurring until someone takes the bull by the horn to tackle it. Takes a whole lot of people complaining for that to eventually happen too.
Secondly, I'm happy they can finally replace lost stolen cards in office, but their card services..... 😖
Debit card issues are more common than they should be. A little while ago, Blue Eagle debit card was blocking legitimate company cards and services. If it happened over the weekend no help was available until Monday morning. There's continued updates but their card services are not great. Also you have to alert them when traveling if you want to be sure your card is usable. Eslewise fraud may block usage while out of town.
Why am I reviewing Blue Eagle? As a long term member I have referred several young family members to them and these very problems have been ongoing. I've regretted the recommendations and I believe people need to know. These problems cause unnecessary embarrassment and at one point created a big mess being out of state and the card blocked for suspected fraud the entire weekend. And they were closed. Read moreI am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Blue Eagle Credit Union, particularly with the representative Kari Gilbert.
Initially, I had a good relationship with Blue Eagle and successfully secured two auto loans with them. However, during my most recent loan process, which was urgent due to a car crash, I explicitly stated that I did not want to pay for Gap insurance or any additional services.
Months later, I discovered an $18 monthly charge for a "debt protection" plan that I never agreed to. This charge has been occurring every month without notification, explanation, or my consent. When I contacted Kari about this, she misleadingly stated that this plan was "included in my loan" and canceling it "would not lower my monthly payment."
An exact quote from her: "The monthly payment has the debt protection in it; you are not paying any extra." This is blatantly false. Every month, $18 is charged to my account, increasing the amount of money I owe on the loan. In no world is that me "not paying any extra." I can understand a miscommunication at first, but I asked for clarification three times, and she continued to present this as something I was getting for free.
This misrepresentation is unprofessional and dishonest. This $18 per month would have cost me over a thousand dollars throughout the loan term.
