Having dined at their location in the twin cities a couple of times, and I eagerly awaited the opening of the rochester location.
I waited until several days after open before I tried it. I brought a guest to join me. We had no idea what to expect but felt sure we might not get the best food or service so soon after the opening day. I must say I have never been more pleased to be wrong.
At the bar i was greeted right away by a polite young man who seemed rather adept at his craft. It was enjoyable to watch the many coctials being poured. I ordered their signature old fashion, at the bartenders suggestion. Such a fun cocktail! The epitome of what a good true old fashion should be, with a single cube of ice featuring their logo in the bottom. Delightful!
Later my guest and I were shown to our seats and were quickly given waters. Our waitress introduced herself and gave us a warm and sincere sounding welcome. We found her to be knowledgable and professional, but at the same time very personable and sincere, and charming. She was quick on her feet with answers to our questions. One would never have guessed she had only learned all this information days ago.
We eventually asked for a appetizer recommentdation, and were told the scallops with hollendaise sauce were a unique and extremely popular. Her personal favorite was the maple bacon dish. She descibed it so well but words are failing me to describe it here! We ordered both and they were incredible, and an advernurous break from the same appetizers I see at every other restaurant. I believe those two items are a must for every visit I make in the future.
I ended up ordering a steaks. I like how a few minutes after the steak arived our server stopped and asked if they were "prepared to our liking", and that she actually seemed to care about what we replied. The steak WAS perfect, and at that point way too much for me. When I pushed plate away it was quickly whisked away and returned later perfectly packaged to carry home! There were multiple little details like this throughout my visit, performed by various staff. It was as if they thought of everything!
We decided to take a walk and tour the restaurant. The staff busily buzzing around doing other things, yet we were still greeted with wecoming smiles by every worker we encountered (there were a lot!)
Thank you so much for the wonderful meal and exceptional service by the entire staff, especially Taylor behind the bar and our server Angela. Thank you both for the great service and interesting conversation! It was a pleasure getting to know you both a little.
I cannot wait to return with more of my friends and family. Pittsburgh Blue, thank you for setting the new standard for quality here in our city. Keep up...
Read moreMy father and I were excited when we called and the host said come on in. We have valet and you should have about a 30 min wait. You could have a seat at the bar while we prepare a table. Perfect. We sat at the bar the host brought menus. The place was pretty busy on a Wednesday night around 6:30. We waited a long time as there was only one bar tender whom seemed un interested to serve us. First off it seemed they were short handed. We understood. Then a lady whom seemed to be the GM stopped over to offer water and get drinks. I asked for the spirits menu as they have a very notable wine list and whiskey list. It then took over 15 min to get the bar tenders attention. I ordered a Macallan 18 and my father a margarita. Drinks were great. The scotch was served with an awesome block of ice that was stamped "BLUE". A touch of a high end establishment. This is where things got worse. People that came in after us started getting food both at the bar and at tables behind us and we had not even been asked if we wanted an appetizer. We had menus for a reason. Finally we flagged down the bar tender to order there Maple glazed bacon. It came out in a reasonable time and was amazing. Now we sit. No one followed up asking how was it or would you like to order dinner or be seated. At this time I flagged down the host to be seated. He came over and said to settle up with the bar first. I told him i would live to however no one has stopped by for at least 20 minutes. The host got someone to get our check. At this point we ended up just leaving while not having any dinner as my father was wore out from the trip to MAYO. The host appologized multiple times. We wanted this experience to be what was advertised. We are familiar with fine establishments and the proper guest experience. Maybe it was an off night, maybe understaffed, or maybe they are very unorganized. I took the time to write this review as the establishment has great potential to be 4-5 star dining. The menu is top notch. Please work on your guest experience. Best wishes. We will try again...
Read moreUsually go to Pittsburgh blue in Edina at the galleria with it being one of my favorite restaurants. Spent Valentine’s Day in Rochester with my girlfriend and figured we would give that location a shot on Valentine’s Day night. From the beginning, our server did not seem interested in being there at all. Took him almost 10 mins to make it over to us after making a couple rounds and the few other tables in our section. No introduction of himself or welcome to the restaurant just asked if we knew what wanted to drink and if we wanted to order right away. We ordered a salad to split and the lettuce was an off color yellow, not very green at all and way under dressed. We intended on just asking for more dressing but another 10 mins had passed to where we ended up catching one of the food runners and asking him for more instead. We get the dressing but it still doesn’t do much due to the poor quality of lettuce used. Our server comes by finally but never checked on how the salads were for us so we didn’t bother saying anything. we put our entrees in and everything ends up coming out fine but we had planned to ask for more sauce and our sever was again making rounds to the other tables to which we felt we were being avoided. At the end of the meal we get our check and pay for it and after he tells us have a good night I say “we didn’t even get your name through the whole dinner, what was it again?” He tells us and kinda laughs about it then walks away. Like I said Pittsburgh Blue is one of my favorite restaurants and I’m not going to let one mediocre experience stop me from going anymore, it was just disappointing while it happened on Valentine’s Day and my girlfriends first time dining there. Maybe I should just stick to what I know and only go to the...
