My 13-year review in 30 seconds. The food is good for sure (jerk chicken dinner), but the older woman who serves you in the middle of the day rolls her eyes after staring at you like a criminal and dont expect any greetings (seems like she hates her job but still works there even after all these years). Because of our heritage and the authenticity of the food I have frequented this place as a kid for over a decade, but years later as an adult it is unfortunate to say that the atmosphere is even more cold and unwelcoming than before, and that's too bad because I believe that if their service was more hospitable they would honestly receive more business from the neighborhood (but they did survive the pandemic so i have to give them some credit). Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy supporting local businesses but I'm not convinced that spending my money there was ever worth such low standards or the bad attitude. At this point its foolish to continue spending my hard earned money in that place as there are plenty of other restaurants that would acknowledge their customers by saying hello, happily take my money, and welcome me into their establishment. Needless to say that the quality of the business is not getting better, but don't take my word for it. Go and see for yourself, but dont run crawl there instead! Either way, it's an agonizing experience. Sending you the best of luck and well...

Walking our dog I stop in to get 2 chicken and 2 beef patties. The cashier, an elderly woman sees my girlfriend holding my dog outside and says, “I see you switched sides”. Referencing that my girlfriend isn’t black, I am. I respond that she’s Lebanese and the cashier retorts, “It doesn’t matter, she isn’t dark like me”. She then see’s I’m not amused and says she was just playing in efforts to walk it back and then proceeds to talk about how their are light skin black people as in efforts to shift the conversations but the new subject matter was still bitter.
it’s unfortunate as my girlfriend liked the place and was the one who recommended their beef patties. Very unprofessional, I do not feel welcomed and will not give the business going forward. Quite distasteful as I go out of my way to patronize black business only to be openly disrespected. I would hope the other workers have better tact.

Read moreI probably do not have a more favorite place to grab a quick bite them this place, in all of Chicago! The beef patties are just indescribably delicious, every time. I really enjoy them and, occasionally, will try some of the other varieties such as curry chicken or jerk chicken. The selection of baked goods is really nice (especially considering that I hardly ever think about it, except for the bread in the jerk chicken dinner orders). The bread is known, across the Caribbean communities of the city; many people travel there just for the bread alone. The rotisserie chicken and pork is just mouthwatering!
This place is surprisingly easy to find, despite the fact that more people aren't aware of its location. There is street parking available, by paid meter. It's just a short walk from the Red Line Howard Street Station. Whenever you are on the north side of Chicago, this place is a must! Highest...
