We had a very disappointing experience at the Woodward location today.
My boyfriend and I went to Men’s Warehouse for a quick suit and shirt measurement. My boyfriend also wanted to see what they had in stock for a certain suit he saw on the website.
As soon as we walked in we were greeted. I noticed an employee near the back of the store not wearing a mask. He promptly put one on when he saw me look and then shouted “good morning folks”. It didn’t feel genuine.
The gentleman who first greeted us assisted in measuring my boyfriend for his suit. Meanwhile, his mask was slipping down past his mouth. We should have asked him right then and there to fix his mask but we didn’t want to be a bother. He asked why we were in to get a measurement and my boyfriend mentioned that he had lost some weight during quarantine. By now, the man who shouted at us earlier was involved in the conversation. They asked how he lost weight and I chimed in and said “by staying home with me!”. There were small comments made but nothing outside of the norm.
My boyfriend went to try on a suit and that process seemed smooth even though the man assisting us was either oblivious or careless about his mask resting just above his chin.
We were trying to wrap up and the man helping us was trying to get more information on what suits my boyfriend was looking at online to see if he could get a better deal in store. We appreciated the help but he kept trying to touch my boyfriends phone with his mask continuously falling. At this point we asked him to please pull his mask up. He said “I’m sorry, I really am”. Again, it felt disingenuous.
At this point I began to feel very uncomfortable. I have worked in retail sales, with the same sales techniques as Men’s Warehouse, for over 5 years. I know that the best sales come from making your customer as comfortable as possible and to let them enjoy their time shopping. Our experience today was quite the opposite. I quickly spoke to my boyfriend and asked if we could just buy everything online. He could tell by my body language that I was ready to leave.
We thanked the gentleman helping us and told him we had somewhere else we needed to be. As we walked out of the store, the man who didn’t have a mask on initially, again, shouted at us “FEED HIM”.
Firstly, someone’s weight loss (or weight gain for that matter) is not something anyone else gets a say in. In fact, my boyfriend is hoping to lose a little more weight. He also can eat whatever he wants and it’s not my job to feed him. I don’t appreciate the joke. I don’t know you.
Secondly, we were prepared to buy two suits and a few shirts today if we were feeling good about shopping. We haven’t been to a retail store (outside of groceries) since March. We spent time thinking about the best time of day to go to Men’s Warehouse. This wasn’t just a last minute trip. We were very disappointed to find employees either not wearing masks or not ensuring that they wear their mask properly. It was very disrespectful towards our health. I expect the very basic standards of proper mask wearing to be in place. We will not be back to shop at Men’s Warehouse in person. Especially at...
Read moreOn October 15, I came in looking for a gray suit for a wedding/baptism. I told the associates I needed the suit by November 2. I tried on at least six different suits and finally found a size and color that were acceptable. The size I needed had to be delivered from a different store. I paid for the suit and left. Later that day, the store called me twice, once to say they did not have the suit in stock and once to say they did have it and it would be delivered.
On October 28, I came back to have minor alterations done on the suit. When I arrived, I found out the suit they ordered was cut for an obese man. I was like a child playing dress up in his dads clothes. The salesman kept trying to sell me different suits, suits that I had already tried on and decided did not fit correctly. For example, they were trying to sell me an "Extreme Slim" cut suit that was 2 sizes larger than my measurements. I had the "Executive Cut" suit they had delivered fitted by the tailor. They did only charge me for hemming the pants when the suit required extensive tailoring. I made it very clear that I needed to have this suit ready by November 2. On October 29, I received an email telling me the alterations were done. I found out they were not done when I came back to the store that day.
On October 31, they called me again trying to sell me yet another suit. At this point, I decided to take my business elsewhere. They did offer to refund some of the money I had spent on the suit, but at this point, it was not about the money. It was about them wasting my time trying to sell me an ill fitting suit and jerking me around. A dollar spent on an improperly fitting suit is a dollar wasted. I made four trips to and from the store. That is two hours just driving back and forth to the store. It would have been five trips had I decided to stay with them.
I went back to the store to have my card refunded and a large man with glasses was an incredibly snarky jerk. "Snarky Jerk" told me that he would have only put me in a custom suit and could not believe that I was passing up this "deal." Snarky Jerk admitted what I already knew; the staff at this store was trying to put me in a suit that did not fit correctly. I would not let these jokers fit me for a pair of socks. The staff, well mostly meaning well, lacks knowledge and expertise. Just look at how they dress themselves. They look like slobs. At a competitor's establishment, in less than 1 hour, I had an awesome suit that fit correctly at a great price. And no Snarky Jerk, it was not...
Read moreWhile shopping the Men's Wearhouse website, I purchased a matching three piece suit from seperates. My order of pants was cancelled, completely understandably, it was on clearance and stock moves faster than the website reflects. I did get the Jacket and Vest, however, and I'm quite happy with them. Queue my afternoon journey of making phone calls to local stores, then realizing that I'd have to go look in person to ensure the color/material match, to find a pair of pants. Amber at the 31921 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak, Michigan 48073 Men's Wearhouse is one of the most capable and dedicated salespeople I've ever met. She moved heaven and earth to find me a pair of pants, in the right size, in the right material. Working from her personal cell when the block had an unexpected power outage, she called multiple stores, found a swatch of fabric that matched my Jacket to identify it in professional terms better than 'Here's this Jacket I bought online.', shared all of the information she could find with me. Unfortunately, it still wasn't enough. There just isn't a way to magic up a pair of clearance sale slacks that don't physically exist. Amber is still the heroine of this review. I overheard there may be a possibility for a promotion in the area, and think Amber demonstrates the competence and breadth of knowledge it requires. A woman who goes that far, for a pair off clearance sale slacks, on the behalf of a clueless dude who just walked in, deserves a raise and...
