Grave digger Dave really injects a lot of energy into this tour, you can tell he loves his job and makes this a very fun few hours. A lot of Stories felt made up though— I was hoping for dark history of SD, and ended up hearing some of that, but also about bubonic plague and random things. Feedback for tour operators— i think this would benefit from adding a third stop on the trolley… it feels like you are making the effort to drive somewhere but you arrive to an elementary school, and then back on the bus and return where you started, a third location in like a triangle route (even if it’s quick) would make more use of the fact that you have a bus here and not just a walking tour of old town.

I took this tour several years ago and enjoyed it. I took it again on 5/4/25, and it will stand out as one of the best tours I have ever taken! Our guide, gravedigger Dave, was amazing! Dressed the part, of course, very knowledgable, providing clear and concise information, patient answering everyone's questions, and genuinely seemed to enjoy his job! I was with 2 of my adult daughters, and we all agreed that it was one of the best tours we'd ever taken! My daughter also took an amazing photo just outside of the Whaley house, attached here.

My daughter wanted to go on this tour, so we indulged her request. I must say, I enjoyed this low effort (in my planning) experience as we didn't know about this tour until we arrived. I had more fun rather than being scared, and the history was quite fascinating. I was more concerned about my youngest child, who would run away from a fly, but she also enjoyed her experience. I think they have a midnight or overnight experience, which will be next.

Update....They contacted me and gave me a full refund and sent me free tickers for the Whaley House tour Thank you very much for your customer service.

My 15yr old daughter and 2 friends really wanted to do the Whaley House Tour for $14 and I went on the website and saw the Whaley for $14 and the Ghost for $36 which included the graveyards. I booked 4 for the 6:30 and the staff was really helpful - at the start. Our Ghost Host Mendoza did a great job as we went to all of the sites and finally we ended up at the Whaley House in the backyard where we were told that the tour had come to an end and to look around. We went straight to the back entrance of the Whaley House, went inside and up the steps to do a self tour of the house. We were stopped by the staff and told we had to leave immediately. I tried to explain that we were on the Ghost tour and that the Whaley House was part of the tour and we were told that it was not and to leave out of the house - very rudely. Keep in mind that both tours are owned by the same company. My daughter and her friends were very disappointed as they only wanted to see the Whaley House and it was me who suggested we go on the more expensive tour. They would get to see the House and see some other spots as well. When I got home I wrote an email to the Trolley company who runs the tours but I have not heard anything from anyone for 3 days. I had asked them to refund the difference between the $14 and the $36 I paid times 4 for the number of tickets I purchased. As a resident of San Diego and been in Old Town many times, we had never been on the tours before but I really can't recommend the more expensive Ghosts and Gravestones Tour. It does not come with the Whaley House which is really the centerpiece that you want to see anyways. Save the extra money and just go with the $14 House Tour. I hope you have a better experience than I had. I am giving the tour 2 stars instead of 1 star because both the ticket attendant was very helpful and so was our Ghost...

OWNER SHOULD READ THIS

I was very excited to go on this tour, I called at 5:30 to see if they had any last minute tickets as it was a last minute recourse after we noticed it was too cold and grey to go to the beach. I talked to a very nice woman heather who told me they did have openings and I was excited. I said I'd call back in a few minutes after talking things over with my better half. I called back a half hour later and asked for heather as she told me to do before we disconnected. The man told me heather had gone home already, it was 6 so I figured ok.

I asked him if the tour was still open he informed me it was. This is where it get it gets bad. I asked him if there was any difference between the ticket price and the price if I bought it in person. I'm guessing he's working on commission because the next words out of his mouth was

"There's only 10 spots left, good chance they'll be taken but do whatever you want. You could hear the attitude in his voice, it was dripping. Trying to intimidate me almost always means you will not get my business, exactly what he tried to do. I hung up pretty much immediately and drove to old town and got there by 6:45. I was told to be there at 7 to start. I found the tour within about 3 minutes and I figured ok still ten minutes to get my ticket. I walked up to ask where to buy as I did they left.

They took off ten minutes early from the start time which left me unable to buy a ticket because I refused to buy from a guy who was tried to intimidate me. I ended up just doing a self tour and calling it a day, I highly suggest reviewing your sales team and enforce start times because that is no way to...

First of all... We wanted Whaley house on our tour, but it wasn't offered on the web signup. I called the office and spoke to Steve....we seemed to remember each other from some other tour two years ago....thanks Steve. Anyway...Steve added the Whaley house tour to our Tuesday tour, thank you! And creepy things did happen...great tour. We did get creepy pictures... Will post soon. And not "orbs" b/c of plexiglass flashback....The Professor was a delight and full of information and creepy facts. Excellent guide. And this ghoul host even drove us back to our haunted hotel. Just being nice at 11:30 at night. Thank you Professor and Old Town Trolleys...highly recommend. Also recommend La Jolla trip and Deb, fun tour and she also made sure we got back to our hotels. And you gotta love an establishment where Steve the scheduler will add an extra tour not offered on Tuesday AND says he remembers me from a year or two ago phone call. A Fact or fiction? My personality says he remembers me. Highly recommend Old Town Trolleys....first do the hop off hop on a two day...you'll go everywhere downtown, old town, little Italy, balboa park, Coronado Highly recommend beach tour....La Jolla, sea lions, Sunny Jims Cave thru a GIFT SHOP, steep, damp and piracy, be prepared, MT Soledad memorial History (bring eyes wiping device)...
