TLDR - Just go. if you choose not to come to Barbary Coast, you will not only be missing out on one of the best full service haircuts of your life, but you won’t get to meet one of the most genuinely great humans on the peninsula - owner and proprietor Skeez Nava.

Long-form: I don’t write reviews for literally any business, but for this one I’m making an exception. You may be wondering why this barber, of all the barbers, is worth your hard earned trust and money. The answer is simple - owner, proprietor and my dear friend - Skeez Nava. I met skeez, of course, by him cutting my hair at another barber shop. That was 3 years ago. Over those 3 years, I’ve learned a few simple facts. Skeez does not cut hair for money, he does it because he loves the craft of it and getting to spend time with the community. When you sit in his chair, he truly wants to know how you’re doing, what he can do to help, and how he can apply his craft to make you feel and look more confident and fulfilled then when you came in.

If you’re lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Skeez, in his chair or just by coming to hang out, the barbershop can transcend its core function and become a truly special place. The barbers here are always ready to offer you a drink (or several), celebrate your wins, mourn your losses, laugh at the comedy of life, and most importantly … truly listen.

Alright all the barbers and stylists I have ever seen over the years (easily over 50 different people) are nice and good people. But none of them could handle my nasty cowlick. Their solution was to leave my hair long on the back of my head, which admittedly keeps it from sticking straight up off the back of my head, which is nice. But as a result, I always had a lump of hair on the back of my head, which made my head the shape of a shoebox.

I told Luis at Barbary Coast Barber Shop the exact same thing I've told all of the previous 50 very nice, good people who cut my hair: "I've got a nasty cowlick that makes my hair stick up". Luis said "oh you don't want that?". I might have laughed "no." He said "ok I'll take care of it". I thought: I've heard that one before . . . but its cool, everyone has a flaw, I've got a shoebox for a head, nothing I haven't learned to live with.

Not anymore. Seriously people are like "what's different?". I say I got a haircut, but there like "huuummmm, yeah but there's something else....." I say "Thanks!" but what I'm thinking is: YEAH, MY HEAD IS ROUND NOW INTEAD OF SHAPED LIKE A F* shoe...

Barbery Coast Barber Shop and Master Barber Skeez Nava provided exceptional care for my aging uncle, and I cannot recommend them enough. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, putting my uncle completely at ease. Skeez Nava’s professionalism and skill were evident throughout the appointment. He took the time to listen, ensuring my uncle’s preferences were respected, while offering expert recommendations that enhanced his overall look.

What stood out most was Skeez’s genuine kindness and patience. He treated my uncle with dignity and care, making him feel valued and comfortable. The attention to detail in both the haircut and beard trim was impeccable, leaving my uncle looking sharp and feeling confident.
