Ok first of all the service and atmosphere is amazing. I had to take this order to go but it’s definitely a place I’d recommend sitting down in. So, the food. It hurts me to say this when the service was so personable and warm but my falafel wrap was bad so I would recommend trying some other dish here! The first two falafel balls tasted like soap. I’m thinking maybe the board that they were rolled on wasn’t cleaned off enough? I’ve never had this issue with falafel before and I don’t have the gene where some herbs taste like soap. I wanted so badly to like the food at this place because of the service so I waited a bit and tried it again, hours later. It still tasted like soap. Then I knocked out the top falafel balls into the compost and tried some other falafel balls to see if it was just those top ones. Indeed, the other falafel balls tasted more regular but they were still far from the best falafel balls I’ve had. If you’re someone who likes a falafel wrap just packed with falafels, you’ll appreciate the way they make it here. But if you’re like me and like a ratio closer to 60:40 of falafels to veggies, you’ll be disappointed. I personally wish there were more veggies in the wrap. Despite this bad food experience I would still come back for the atmosphere and service to try something else- not the falafels or falafel wrap. That says a lot about the place! This place is on the pricier side. With tax, the falafel wrap ended up being a bit over $19 and I believe it was the cheapest thing on the menu. I appreciated that their menu had a key for dietary restrictions but noticed it wasn’t applied super accurately. For example, the falafel wrap was nut free (I asked) but did not have a “NF” symbol by it. If you have an allergy or dietary restriction, consult the key AND ask staff to double check. Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at North Beach Gyro with my daughter, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment we walked in, the ambience captivated us—warm lighting, tasteful decor, and a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
The food was absolutely delicious. Each dish was bursting with authentic Mediterranean flavors, and to our delight, the staff generously offered us some complimentary items on the house. It’s rare to find such generosity these days, and it truly enhanced our dining experience.
One of the highlights was meeting the owner. He was extremely generous, taking the time to come over and chat with us. He even shared heartfelt stories and showed us pictures of his family, making the evening feel more like a gathering with old friends than a typical restaurant visit. He also told us about his other establishment in San Mateo, The Barrel Bistro and Bar, which we are now eager to try.
The service was impeccable. The lady who attended to us was very generous and sweet, ensuring we had everything we needed and that we were completely satisfied. Her attentive care added a personal touch that made our visit even more special.
Being one of the few—if not the only—Mediterranean restaurants in the North Beach area, North Beach Gyro is a true gem. We absolutely loved our time there and are already planning to bring our family back. If you’re in the area and looking for delicious food paired with outstanding hospitality, this is the...
Read more🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Hands down, one of the best Mediterranean restaurants I’ve ever been to. From the moment you walk in, you feel like someone actually gave a damn about the atmosphere — soft lighting, greenery, just the right kind of music playing in the background, and a calm, welcoming vibe that instantly makes you want to stay longer than planned.
The service? Spot on. Our server wasn’t just polite — he knew his stuff. Gave thoughtful recommendations, explained the dishes with passion (not that annoying salesy vibe), and knew where each ingredient came from. When he said their Greek salad is done “properly,” I rolled my eyes — but then I tasted it, and yeah… it’s not your usual sad lettuce with cheap feta. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and balanced like someone actually tasted it before putting it on the menu.
I had the grilled octopus — perfect texture, not rubbery, with a nice char and smoky finish. The roasted eggplant with tahini? Unreal. Even the bread stood out: warm, crusty, soft inside, served with olive tapenade and their own cold-pressed oil. Not a single weak link.
Prices are on the higher side, but honestly? Totally worth it. You’re not just paying for food, you’re paying for a full experience that leaves you full, happy, and a little bit spoiled.
If you’re looking for real Mediterranean food, made with care and served in a space that gets everything right — this is the place. I’ll be...
