If you go to El Chavo Supermarket, be warned — the owner, Ismael, will have your car towed without hesitation. I went inside to ask about my car, and the only response I got — repeated three times — was, “It’s private property. Don’t you read the sign?” She went on to say that if I wasn’t shopping there, I shouldn’t be parked there. What makes it even more frustrating is that my daughter actually did shop there, while I waited next door at Four Chairs. The whole experience was a harsh reminder of why I avoid visiting San Francisco — the pettiness, the lack of kindness, and the unwillingness of neighboring businesses to support one another. We just discovered this market and we saw their parking lot so we parked in their parking lot. Didn’t see signs because where we were parked the sign was facing the opposite direction so we decided to go down the street to grab something to eat and then we were gonna go to this market to buy food supplies by the time we got out of eating our food. The tow truck was towing our car of course he stopped and charged us $375 to take the truck off of his tow truck and he kept pushing the fact that the sign said what it said but again we were parked on the opposite side of the sign and it was facing away from us so we didn’t see it. Honestly most of these reviews gotta be friends or family hyping it up, not real customers. Place is overpriced and honestly the quality just is pretty bad. A lot of the fruit and veggies looked like they’re about to go bad and the meat section is kinda nasty, didn’t even wanna risk it. Also they charge like $5 just to use a credit card?? That’s crazy. I feel bad for people using EBT here, feels like they’re getting ripped off. I wanted to give it a shot cuz I live nearby and I’m all about supporting local but yeah, def not coming back.. The whole vibe of the place is just off, kinda sketchy, almost feels like some money laundering stuff lol....
