I just left this store, or to my actual experience, kicked out of the store. 2 minutes after 5pm. I never write reviews and I don’t take precious time out of my busy life to write something like this but this moment is the exception. I’m a SF native and I took a day off to go to this amazing museum with my family for my birthday. Nothing was free, I’m working class. I work at a high end surgical office. So I know I could never kick anyone out even if it’s 30 minutes after closing time. I would never treat any patient this way, so why at a prestigious museum as this do the staff think it is ok for my family and I to be shouted at about the closing time?! You don’t know what what my intentions are about purchasing and spending more of my hard earned money to support OUR CULTURE being displayed back at us for RESELL! Yet as I want to continue to spend as if I haven’t spent enough on entry, Diego Rivera Extra Tab for viewing exhibitions then now to want to take some home to our families and still be yelled at repeatedly that “WE’RE CLOSED!” I got it and you are excused and I didn’t want to be disrespectful to the elderly or to set a bad example in front of my young daughter but this bad experience to SF MOMA is something I cannot pass on sharing and vocalizing as we as a society try to get back to some sort of normalcy and support businesses and one another. Please be considerate to the experience you give to every single one who walks in because we are all not made of money and are taking time off our busy schedules to come and see some of OUR CULTUREon display for your...
Read moreThis is a review of the store, not the museum. The museum itself gets 5 stars.
The store has a great selection like you find in most good museum stores. I am downgrading this review because of the customer service. I pointed out that a Vasa sculpture I wanted to buy had subtle scratches on it - the only one they had left was the display model (which had been handled). The sales person agreed with me, but his supervisor did not. I was shocked about how rude she was, saying she could not see any scratches, locked the case up and refused to speak with me anymore on the issue.
I recommend you buy items online that you see there and not at the store itself - Milwaukee’s online art museum has many of the same items SF MoMA has and their customer service online has been outstanding as well as their prices and selection.
This supervisor needs new glasses and a course on customer etiquette - I’m disappointed that my 1st day of annual membership at SF MoMA ended with...
Read moreMore than just a gift shop. The Museum Store offers all the usual trinkets you expect to find in a gift shop but it doesn't stop there. Its a mini book store, with books about the artists you see in the museum, as well as books on architecture, color, shapes, and more. Boutique like jewelry is showcased. Along with the usual T-shirts and sweatshirts with the museum logo are high-end designer scarves . But I was most impressed by the tech wall. Something for every techie on this wall. I'm not a techie so I wouldn't do it justice, you'll have to see it for yourself. So even if you don't have time for the museum, take time to see its store. You won't be...
