BBB Complaint: On Sept 30th, 2025, I contacted Ken's Tech Repair & Service. The business was marketed as a storefront, however; was operating out of an apartment home. I paid $170 to have Hobart Smith of Ken's Tech R&S to replace my DC port on my laptop. This was to be a very simple job, however; after the DC port replacement, my battery was not powering up. I stated "over and over" to Ken Smith that there was nothing wrong with my "battery charging prior to the DC port replacement." I returned the laptop so that Ken could "figure it out," convinced that he did not reconnect the battery properly. Ultimately, he told me that I needed to purchase a new battery of which he could replace for another charge. I decided to take it to Computer Pros in Alameda CA, which was an actual storefront. Computer Pros figured out inside of an hour that the battery had not been repositioned properly - a $70 charge to me. So, I requested from Ken's Tech R&S to refund me $70 of which I thought was a fair and justified request, however; I got no response. Computer Pros also implied that Ken's Tech overcharged me and that a competent tech repair guy should have figured it out. Read moreYou know when you "have a guy" for certain repairs, or work around the house, or whatever... it takes all the stress out of trying to fix something? When you have someone you trust, who communicates well, who doesn't try and screw you on prices (always a challenge in the Bay Area), and who can get to work right away it makes all the difference in the world. To me, Ken is that guy for computer repairs.
We reached out about a broken screen on a laptop. Ken was so easy to communicate with. By text or over the phone, whatever worked for us. Sent him some photos, he got back right away with how much it would cost. He had to order some parts and even then got it done in just a couple days (it was a fancy screen on a new machine, I imagine if it was a normal screen it'd be done in like an hour). No trying to upsell anything, no hidden fees... just honest hard work. The guy clearly knows his stuff too. This was over the weekend too!!
I couldn't be happier with my experience and I am going to go to Ken first thing if I ever have need of repairs or computer work moving forward. I highly recommend you give him...
Read moreBig thank you to google search that led me to Ken's repair services. I was pretty frantic over my laptop (MacBook Pro 2015) shutting down on me all of a sudden. Opened up my laptop as usual to start my day of work when I noticed the black screen was not budging for me. I took my laptop to another shop before finding Ken's, however I didn't feel confident with them so started looking again. Everything about Ken's service was wonderful. I must've called like 3 days straight with questions but he was very patient and professional every time, and addressed any concerns I had. Taking my laptop in was another great experience especially not expecting at all that he'd be done so fast! I drove home after dropping my laptop off and didn't even get a chance to get out of my car, when I received a call that he was finished. Thank you so much to this tremendously great service. Got me right back to business that very same day. Super happy...
