Furniture Design Gallery — Local services in Sanford

A few years ago, we completed a remodel of our home but postponed the completion of our entertainment center because we were not sure what to install. It is a small space between two windows, so we had limited options on what we could do. Once we decided to move ahead with the entertainment center, we brainstormed some ideas of what we thought might work. We searched the Internet and were able find some similar models which helped us complete our conceptual design drawing.

One thing that we were looking to be able to do was to have the entertainment center base cabinet made as a separate piece to allow us to be able to slide out from the wall. The wall behind our entertainment center was our AV Hub and we had numerous Ethernet, cable and antenna connections and cables. We wanted to be able to remove the base unit to allow full access to these connections for serviceability.

With our conceptual entertainment design in-hand, we then started looking around for who might be able to build this for us. We discovered Furniture Design Gallery and thought the services they offer were exactly what we were looking for. We made an appointment to come in and met with Daniel. At our meeting, Daniel drew our entertainment center based on our conceptual design drawing and talking with us. I stressed the need to make the based cabinet movable and Daniel indicated that they would not normally do this and instead just provide large access panels in the back of the cabinet. However, after thinking about it more, Daniel came up with a simple design change to make it work.

Unlike other companies, they do not come to you for a free consultation. You have to drive all the way to Sanford AND make an appt which are ONLY available on Saturday with a designer. Needless to say, the appt was made for a week away. I showed them the designs that I liked and inquired about timeframe. They said no problem with before Christmas as long as I picked everything out on my end, which I did. They wanted me to use the Floor & Tile place by them because of their “relationship”. I stopped by and picked out tile. They wanted to charge over $1,000 for an electric fireplace and I refused stating I’d provide my own as I’d seen tons for $400-500. They tried to get me to get theirs in the $400 range but without heat which I then declined as the ones online provide heat in that range. They stressed that it had to be front blowing, which the ones I found were as they were made to be recessed in a wall. I emailed them the link so they could see dimensions as requested. I called to make sure they’d received it which I was told they had. The lady I spoke with said she had to “research” more about it to make sure it was ok. Never heard from her again and it’s been almost 2 weeks. Wouldn’t recommend as it seems that unless you want to use all of their materials, they won’t...
