First off, I would like to say that the doctor we dealt with was wonderful and we really liked her. However, the billing situation has been an absolute nightmare.
We got a charge for 29 dollars for a "depression screening" that we didn't ask for. We were in there for a UTI infection. We were basically handed a little photocopied sheet of paper that asked the standard depression questions like "Do you take enjoyment in activities" and "do you feel sad more than 3 days a week?" etc. It took thirty seconds to fill out and give to the nurse. At other doctors offices, that's just been part of the regular visit. We have never been charged extra for that.
I called the number on the bill to ask about it. The representative said something along the lines of, "I know it says on your bill to contact us with any billing questions but the doctors office has to take care of that. I can't do anything on my end."
The response at the doctors office was equally vague. The receptionist told me in a somewhat aggravated voice that she had no idea why billing kept having patients call her. She could do nothing about it. After a little more wheedling the receptionist eventually transferred me to one of the managers.
I left a message with the manager, who got back to me a week later. She was kind and professional and said I wasn't the first one to contact her about that issue. She asked if it was an $11 dollar charge like the rest (no...ours was nearly triple that) and then promised to send the message on to the billing department. However, the bill was nearly due and she had no power to post pone the due date. She instructed me to call the billing number again and assured me that they were usually willing to post pone due dates for things of this nature.
I called the billing number again, where they were as unhelpful as everyone else had apparently been trained to be. The billing representative said that the charge for the depression screening was valid and pointed out that if we had gone in for a UTI but ended up getting treatment for a rash, we would still have been obligated to pay extra for the additional treatment. (Uh...that would make perfect sense if we'd actually been treated for depression.) So after that stunningly intellectual response, I was forced to pay the bill or risk incurring a delinquent charge on our credit score.
Having that much difficulty trying to resolve a billing charge is extremely frustrating. For the first time in my twenty plus years of adult life, I ended up using a four letter word with the billing representative (sorry, lack of control on my part!) Frankly, it's not worth the headache. There is so much beauracry that trying to talk to someone who can actually knows what they're doing is nearly impossible.
Update: I compared a recent bill we got from Revere Health with our Intermountain Healthcare bill. I took a child into urgent care at Revere Health for a strep test. The care at both offices was comparable. Revere Health was $85 including the lab work. The bill at Intermountain was $154 with lab work and the inclusion of the services we received for "depression screening." If you are on a high deductible health care plan like we are, it's a no brainer. Revere Health charged less for the office visit and they didn't have any trumped up charges for services that...
Read moreI have been in horrible pain for almost 2 months because of the poor practices of this doctor's office. Everytime I call they make me leave a message for the doctor and even if I mark it is urgent I don't get a call back from Dr. Coy for at least 3 days even though he knows I am in pain. I had an MRI done to see if something serious (tumor, bleeding, life threatening things) were causing the problem and even though the hospital had sent him the results and he knew they were coming in he didn't call me back for 5 days. I ran out of pain medication and couldn't get a refill for 4+ days because I can NEVER get a hold of him. Then I had a CT done to see if my sinuses(the suspected root problem) were still causing the pain or if it was something else and I called to get the results, as the hopsital instructed me to do, and the receptionist was extremely rude, kept interrupting me and lied about transferring me to a nurse and I got sent straight to voicemail. The nurse was very nice and got right back to me just to confirm what I already knew that I needed to make a followup(which is what I had attempted multiple times to tell the receptionist) and sent me back to the receptionist. The receptionist was rude again and said I couldn't get in for 2 weeks. I explained I'd been in pain and just wanted my CT results and needed to get in sooner and she just didn't care and refused to even talk to Dr. Coy(who would have confirmed that I needed to get in sooner) and said she wouldn't schedule me sooner than 2 weeks. I could have had this resolved easily within 3 weeks based on the treatment they have actually given me when I can get a hold of them but because no one at this office (except the nurses) know how to do their job I have been in daily debilitating pain for almost 2 months. Please please don't ever go to this office. I am not easy to upset and put a lot of faith and trust in my doctors which is why I have put up with this as long as I have but this office managed to break me by showing their complete lack of concern for the pain I have been enduring. Do yourself a huge favor and go...
Read moreI’m not even an established patient yet. I found out I was pregnant very early on in January and mind you, this is/was my very first pregnancy. I didn’t know what to do so whenever I had my first positive,I looked into my insurance and tried to find a female OB (because I’m more comfortable with the same gender). I called them, they schedule me to come in 8-9 weeks, which is crazy to me since I wish they would allow initial appointments for very first time mothers to just discuss things and expectations. If that would have happened, then I would have already been an established patient and gotten the possible help.
I figured since I’m PREGNANT I don’t entirely need to ever go through primary care. I didn’t get a primary care since moving to this state 2 years ago since I hardly ever need a primary and I hardly get sick.
I got COVID 7 1/2 weeks into my pregnancy,I worried myself over a low grade fever. I called the clinic for possible advice and they never once asked to try and come in earlier and they never once provided advice for me since I wasn’t “established”. I start spotting right away while having COVID. I go to urgent care outside of the facility, concerned about my fetus and they would also not let me order bloodwork and an ultrasound. A week goes by and I’m fretting about my frequent spotting and I finally just find an amazing primary doctor who specializes in OB who finally allowed me to come in last minute on a Friday with bloodwork and an ultrasound.
Both did not go well with signs of miscarriage. I’m still going to this OB appointment but Jesus Christ do I wish the healthcare system helped better educate first time pregnant people and in a timely manner and establish patients before the 8 week mark. I wish I had gotten in or have had an ultrasound sooner. There’s so much regret with this first time ordeal that I would never wish this amount of frustration, sadness, and stress,on...
