I love shopping at job lot. It's 1 of the places I can go for items priced lower then Amazon. It's worth the trip. Today, I had my mom we had not been in flu season. The asiles were stocked and clear. We needed to go down every aisle as my list was long. I needed spices, candy, cooking utensils all displayed well and easy to reach. On to gardening to purchase terra cotta planters for my dad and grandparents headstones. It was so great to think about spring again even though we are preparing for another Noreaster. I was thankful some of the winter items were still available. I needed driving gloves and there were plenty to choose from. Our new puppy had a list of his own. We were able to purchase the items on his list and get bird seed to maintain our job lot feeders. Another item worth the ride compared to Amazon. The 2 straw shades look great hiding our books from puppy mouth. My best find are Job Lots variety of readers made it easy to find my strength and colors all hanging nicely in clearly labeled strengths. No bottom shelf dumped piles to sort through. I had to stop myself from buying purple sheets and summer blankets. Next trip. At the registers the area was clear from pallets of items making it difficult to maneuver around and just 2 people in each line. Yes, we will be back as I forgot the propane...
Read moreA chain of stores selling closeouts, overstocks, and a bunch of junk that couldn't sell anywhere else. They sell a lot of odd foods, but be very careful about expiration dates and whatnot. Some of it comes from overseas where they do not have the same FDA rules... That said, there are some pretty good deals there. You won't be disappointed if you don't expect too much!
Here's an addendum 4 years after that first review... Lately, some of the food products have been even worse.
I bought a big jar ($7) of "Litaly" pickled beets. They had a terrible off flavor, and were crunchy. Certainly not what I expected when I bit into one. They got tossed into the mulch heap. I bought a pound of coffee yesterday ($5). I just finished the first cup, but should have known as soon as it was done brewing that it didn't even qualify as coffee. It was brown, but had no coffee smell. At the first sip, I realized I was just drinking hot water with cream and sugar in it. It was more like peat moss than coffee. More Job Lot dollars tossed into the mulch heap.
I considered that Job Lot maybe shouldn't bear the responsibility for the quality of these overstock products, but with due consideration, I think they have some responsibility in screening out worthless products.
Caveat...
Read moreWe had a terrible experience today at Ocean State Job Lot. We went to the seekonk location looking for a table and we bought a gazebo. When my husband loaded up the gazebo onto a dolly himself. On the way out the manager came asking if he loaded it himself. He said yes. And she yelled at him in front of other customers why he cant be using the dolly without permission and saying there are signs everywhere. The dolly was readily available to be used as a carriage. We did not see a single sign that stated we needed permission to grab the gazebo ourselves. My husband said sorry and he wont do it again. And the women continued to yell at him in the store going on and on the whole time we checked out. She stated the cashier called me thats how I found out you took the dolly. We were completed embarrassed and felt degraded while making a purchase. We understand there are rules which we weren't aware of but this women took it way to far. This is our last purchase ever at this store. We will never go to Ocean State job lot again in our entire life and will continue to inform everyone we know of our terrible...
