The fishing department has gone south in last few years. Some walmarts have a better selection. They have obviously changed their target customer from the avid fishermen to the beginner weekend warrior discount fisherman.
I asked an employee why did yall get rid of all the saltwater gear....his response was "we are 130 miles from the coast"
My response was " we are 1000 miles from a ski resort but yall sell ski pants, ski jackets, snow boots and ski goggles".
Now I literally drive past 3 Academys to get to basspro even though their prices are high. They at least have what us real fishermen need.
And they are alot further from saltwater
So if you are looking for leader material, crimps, crimpers, swivels, leader line, piano wire, trolling lures, Bucktails, butterfly jigs, bottom weights, sabiki rigs ect...... Don't go here...
I still go to Academy for fishing clothes, camping gear and shoes. But drive right past it when looking for tackle.
Academy is loosing thousands of dollars. I personally know alot of serious fishermen who have stopped shopping here because of the poor selection.
All it would take is one single aisle to stock good saltwater tackle.

Read moreAbsolutely horrible customer service. Initially I had a pair of sandals on hold which ended up being very scuffed up on arrival. Went to the back and waited 10 minutes for an employee to get a ladder to check for the 2nd pair that was supposedly here. We were refused service by "Ben" a younger gentleman probably around 22 years old. A very kind young lady who was off the clock ended up helping us (don't recall her name). The 2nd pair was not there. We were then told to go back up the front to see about ordering them in the store. After waiting another 10 minutes listening to Sydnee and Ben talk about "getting tacos" and cracking jokes and watching 3 other employees just stand around we were finally told that the sandals were unable to be ordered online. A colossal waste of time for my girlfriend and I. I have never been ignored by employees like this in my life. There's no logical reason why there should be 5 employees just standing around at the front entrance doing absolutely nothing. Mind you there was not a manager in sight. Read moreI had the worst customer service ever shopping at this academy. We went to the store and were going to buy tents and saw this tent that was perfect for us. I called my husband who left work and met me over at the store and brought me cash to buy this tent and when we go to check out turns out his tent was not in the right spot and was about 100$ more of what it was marked. When I asked the reps to get with their supervisors to see if they would honor the price since this was clearly not my fault and they did see there was several in that spot with the tag . I saw them just blow the young man off that was tying to explain that this was in the wrong spot and to see about honoring price and they just blew him off and as a manager couldn't even come talk to me or explain why they wouldn't I wrote down the names of these managers who were being so rude, giving poor customer service and who were to busy laughing and talking with each other and were not worried about the customer.
