On the last day of my vacation, my phone completely crashed around midday. I went into the AT&T store needing help, especially since I had a 23-hour solo drive back to Texas with kids the next day. The staff was originally helpful and told me they didn’t have the technology to fix the issue and recommended I go to a third-party wireless repair shop a few blocks away because they could not fix my problem there. That shop couldn’t fix it either, so I came right back to AT&T to purchase a new iphone. This took about 15 minutes.
When I returned, I had to set up Apple Pay on my niece’s phone to try and complete the purchase, but it flagged as fraud. I ran across the parking lot to grab the kids some Starbucks while it cleared and returned immediately after. At this point, it was 7:51 p.m., and the store closed at 8:00. The employee told me they couldn’t sell me a phone because it takes 10 minutes to unlock the vault and they couldn’t go past 8:00. Despite the fact that I had already been in there, had explained my situation in detail, and clearly needed help, the employee refused to make the sale because of fear from the manager, who had already left.
The employee apologized and said he’d be written up if he went one minute over, per his manager’s policy. Now I will be driving nearly 24 hours in a car with kids with no phone or way to make contact with anybody...
