Very Tight Recordings — Local services in Sharpsburg

Cons(but not really): •9 hour sessions

Our band, Graves (LI,NY), recorded at Very Tight in January ‘17 over a four day weekend. The experience was very enjoyable and I remember just being super-comfortable in the studio and with Matt. He’s managed to build something really beautiful and functional. Aside from the awesome facilities, his skills are really impressive. He’s decisive on the sound he’ll be shaping for the project and extremely quick with his interface; an excellent engineer to say the least. Matt is professional, honest, accommodating, patient, friendly and full of ideas. Take my advice, be prepared before going in because you’ll want the extra time to experiment, especially with the sick gear he’s accumulated.

The only downside, which may actually be a blessing in disguise, would be the nine-hour workday. I’m used to studio sessions lasting twelve hours. However, this turned out to be pretty cool because we weren’t burnt out and got out early enough to experience Pittsburgh.  And they definitely like to get weird in the PGH. Any out of state bands unsure if the long trip is worth it? Do it, yinz are going to have a good time.

For the cost and the quality of the recordings you receive, plus the abnormally-pleasant experience, it’s the best value I’ve come across in fifteen years of studio work. This place is incredible. Matt is a master in audio production. His attention to detail, professionalism, knowledge, and passion for music make him unmatched to other studios in the area. Just a really down to earth and nice guy to work with who will push you to be your best in a constructive way. He takes the time to understand what makes you music great and brings out the best in every genre.

The setting itself is relaxed and creative in nature. Very clean, and well built to suite audio production. Nice big live room, vocal booth, and recording booth. All deliberately constructed to be as sonically sound as possible.

Matt has an amazing selection of new and vintage amplifiers and cabinets for guitar and bass to really dial in the sound you’re looking for. A large selection of snares and percussive instruments. Endless microphones. A great pedal selection, and even a baby grand for your pianist.

Overall our experience here was amazing. Professional quality audio, a very affordable price, and the knowledge and company of an awesome guy!

The Long Hunt had a great time tracking drums with Matt at Very Tight! The studio space itself feels very comfortable and inviting; potted plants here and there, vibrant colors on the walls, lots of woodwork, and even a comfortable couch. Its like recording takes in your own living room, that is, if your living room had an impressive rack of awesome sounding preamps, compressors, and EQ's, a few great sets of studio monitors, a fully stocked mic locker, and your very own live-in audio engineer with world class ears.

Having Matt at the helm was extremely rewarding, as he is able to walk that fine line between staying true to the artist's vision while offering appropriate suggestions that ultimately make for a better end result. Tracking drums at Very Tight gave our songs a fantastic foundation to build upon that helped take our record to the next level.
