I just had the most unpleasant experience at the Sierra Vista Ace Hardware. Several end caps had hand sanitizer at $7.49. There was a 75% hand written on the associated sign. I didn't believe it was really 75% off, however, I stopped a sales associate and asked him. He said, yes, he believed 75% off was correct. So I proceeded to the cashier. Before I allowed her to ring the 4 bottles up, I again asked if it was 75% off. She, and the clerk next to her quickly said no it was the alcohol content. I commented the sign did not state that and attempted to relay the conversation with the sales associate on the floor. Her body language immediately went defensive and she said I was wrong, so I said I did not want them. She sat them aside and I paid for the items I originally came in for and asked to speak to a manager. She called the manager, Janet, for me. She came up and said she would follow me. When we got to the end cap and I relayed what had happened, she said no it was not "off" but "alcohol content". Granted it did not have the word "off" on the sign, however, it did not state that the "alcohol content" was 75%. I tried to explain that to me as a consumer seeing a percentage in that environment indicated a percentage off. She became defensive, so I told her to me this is a bait and switch. She really became defensive and was insistent it was not bait and switch. As I had my back turned and was almost out of earshot, she again repeated it was not bait and switch. At that point my wife went back and confronted her about that last comment and that she always thought Les, the owner insisted on better customer service. In over 30 years of using this Ace Hardware, I have never had such an encounter. Very...
Read more(Written on behalf of my grandfather) - I’m 87 years old, and I went to Ace Hardware to solve a sprinkler issue I had. With my portable oxygen tank hanging by my side, I made my way through the store to the section I needed. When I arrived in the aisle I was looking for; I was greeted by an Ace team member who expectedly asked, “Is there anything I can help you with?” Feeling winded, I said, “Yes, I do, but first, I need to catch my breath.” Without hesitation, this gal said, “I can help you with that!” She disappeared from the aisle, and just as quick as she went, she returned. But this time with a stool in hand for me to sit and rest. After she helped me get the sprinkler supplies I needed, she offered to take everything up to the checkout for me to continue resting there in the aisle on the stool she retrieved for me. She took my credit card and disappeared with the items I selected. When she returned, I asked if it would be alright if I took a cart with me out to my car and leave it there in the parking lot? She said, “Oh! We are going to help you get all the way out to your car!” She and a fellow Ace team member helped us out of the store and into my car, making sure that I was good to go and able to continue on my way.
I was so impressed by how helpful and thoughtful they were that I wish I took note of their names that I might be able to highlight better the valuable team members at Ace Hardware in...
Read moreUnfortunately this ACE (in Sierra Vista) is pretty discriminatory on who they speak to and help. I’ve tested this on two occasions. This doesn’t mean everyone who looks like me is getting the same treatment. But what I can say is that I did. You walk in and the ladies up front will look at you or act like they don’t see you then right behind you is someone “else” and they are chipper and all “HI! Welcome to Ace.”
The very kind sounding gentleman at the assistance desk in the middle - I heard ask several people if they needed help when they walked by. No one did. I actually did need help…so I walked by just to see if I’d be asked like all the others had been asked. I made sure to walk right in front of him and he looked but keep silent.
To ensure it is understood that I don’t go looking for trouble - I normally just ask for help if I need it or speak first. I am really not that pressed about anything. However, when things are blatant you have to stand for something. In my case - my hard earned dollar.
Either way, may God bless all of them. My final decision had been made. I’ll go to Ace in Tucson before I ever enter these...
