This was my store. Loved it. My family has been a patron for 50+ years. We're in Potomac, Chevy Chase, Olney & Kensington but carved out time to stop in weekly, many times twice. It was the best. Great butcher, great deli with delicious offerings whose roots catered to the local Jewish community. It had the highest quality with THE best prices in the area. Couldn't be debated.
I wasn't excited the Snider family sold but things happen. I've been very open minded to what the new owners might bring. I've given them a fair shot. But I can now say they've completely tossed aside what made this store special. The friendly faces are pretty much gone (Pedro was the dagger). The staff behind the counter never gives a warm hello and has zero sense of urgency in getting to the next person.
The deli used to offer great cold cuts at the best price. Now it's just another Boards Head meat case. I can get Boar's Head down the street here in Chevy Chase. The butcher and deli were extremely well priced with quality never being sacrificed. Now it's not worth the extra 10 minute drive.
It's a shame the continued high rating is driven by the standards of the Snider family. I can guarantee this rating will bleed lower over time. The drivers of the 5 star reviews are gone (staff, deli, butcher, bagel bin, great sales).
The new owners agreed to keep the Sniders name for 10 years but do us all a favor and rip the band aid off. Please change the name. The new store has no connection to what the Snider family used to offer. I think you owe it to...
Read moreI'm at Sniders weekly for fresh produce, nuts/snacks, dairy staples & the occasional frozen convenience. The prices are fine; I usually spend about $50 - $70 per week for a single person. I think that's average these days. I don't shop for meat so I can't comment on deli quality.
Variety is phenomenal for such a small store; I cook a pretty wide variety of cuisine & I only have to hit up specialty grocers a few times a year to cover the gaps in Snider's stock. 99% of the time I come out with everything I came looking for. Big grocers irritate me now; I hate spending 10 minutes combing 8 aisles just to find 1 product. Sniders is the opposite--much more efficient.
I agree that the deli guy is erratic & hostile but I've never had any issues with the cashiers/baggers. Literally never, and I'm there so often that the Waze navigation app thinks Snider's is my home address. Yes, they are teenagers, and yes, they behave with all the detachment of teenagers immemorial. But if you relate to them on their level, they will chat back (and remember you next time!)
Idk, maybe I have a better impression because I'm not a deli-focused shopper & I don't have strong memories of the store before it was sold. But some of these critical reviews are quite puzzling to me; I can't relate at all.
I hope Snider's never closes nor relocates; I've gotten so used to the convenience of walking down there at all hours for any little thing that the thought of driving to the next closest grocers seems like...
Read moreGreat items for healthy n full meals. Prices about average, help, deli men, cashier's, baggers n help to care being disabled was 5. Food arranged for single person n or big family. Great selections. Meat department is fabulous n did help me find special food needed for Xmas breakfast. Bread isle sells out fast. Got last load challah bread so have to get another today before evening. Great array of kosher n non kosher items. Great in most all departments and great sugar free n fat free selections.
The food, prices n best grocery in area for sure. Have so many products available not at other stores but needed around house n green products. Only other need I have is the custard yogurt m lactose free yogurt.
Also block over but not quality, packaging for singles and not able to select own produce cause n bulk many items. So much Aldi doesn't have selection wise n truly lacks good customer service. Cross between big box n grocery but not for the good.
Snider's has been tried n true. Closet kosher store now with a Rockville market closed. Backed, fresh, are bit limited but perfect for kosher eating.
Got to Snider's before I'll go to Safeway or Giant n or other stores including new Costco in Wheaton. Snider's is the place for here. If county tries to close it or make them close it, they'll be in for huge fight....it's been n is still best since I've been going there in 1975. Altho not always everything all the time but more than plenty m with sales can't be beat...
