The tasting room is a few steps off the main square in Sonoma. We made a reservation the day before. Upon arrival we checked in and were offered seating inside or on the patio. You can choose flights or to purchase wine by the glass. We opted for flights. They had 2 flights to choose from and we ordered both in order to taste as many wines as possible. Our host Kelsey was very knowledgeable and sat with to describe each wine as it was served. She also shared some marketing materials that showed the owners of the winery, some pictures of their two vineyards, and some information about their cooperage in Hungary. One of their two vineyards has a lot of obsidian and hence the name of the business. We really loved the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Grenache. Wie bought 4 bottles and the tasting fee was comped. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you our friends at Bedrock that suggested...
Read moreAfter primarily being into whites and sweet wines the wife and I are just starting to get into reds. So we like wines that are on the softer, more fruit forward side. Read moreWe had a great tasting today. This winery is fun and unique. Taste wines made from single source family owned vineyards. Look up their video on the volcanic AVA that tells their story.
Started with a lovely "Jacobson Ranch" Sauvignon Blanc that that exquisite. Pear, pineapple and green melon notes. Enjoy with cheese and fish.
Enjoyed the "Boon Fly's Hill" chardonnay, which exhibits fresh butter and Meyer lemon notes, followed by a fun, funky "Pezsgo" sparkling pinot noir.
I love wineries that make what they like, which makes what I'm tasting really interesting.
The "cuvee Kati" named after the founders wife and current winemakers mother is a luscious blend of five Bordeaux grapes.
Finishing with the "Half mile" cabernet Sauvignon was a perfect way to...
