Our daughter attended this school from pre-k to first grade. The pre-school was phenomenal, community oriented but unfortunately had continuous turn over with directors. Post-pandemic was difficult for the school and atmosphere switched drastically with teachers carrying huge amounts of stress, large disconnect between admin and parents, and no community activities.
We ended up pulling our son and moving to the school a previous Davis director had moved on to as we felt Davis was now focusing on its business and less on the education of our children or cultivating community.
It seems we made the right decision.
Our daughter has just started public school in second grade. Davis told us at every point our daughter was doing great academically and would have no problem matriculating.
After our first meeting with our daughters teacher we were notified they are incredibly behind, intervention has been started and testing for multiple academic issues are being done. Davis told us our daughter loved math but as a second grader the school informed us that they are incredibly behind with no ability to identify double digit numbers.
If Davis had notified us earlier we would have had thé opportunity to intervene sooner. We were told at every step our daughter was thriving.
I am sharing this review for other parents to know this school did a phenomenal job with connection, kindness and curiousity but will not let you know if your child is struggling...
Read moreDavis Community provides a wonderful academic, social, and creative home for my fourth-grade daughter. At DCS, my daughter receives enrichment opportunities that play to her academic and social gifts, as well as targeted support for areas in which she experiences challenges. I am always impressed with the school’s ability to provide a solid and consistent foundation for learning while deftly pivoting toward opportunities and challenges as they present themselves. It’s rare to find a school that makes space for self-directed creativity and traditional teaching methods, project-based learning and skills mastery, self-expression and community-mindedness, practice and play; Davis Community not only creates this dynamic space for its students but also takes on this challenge willingly and with enthusiasm. If you’ve ever doubted whether or not a school can be child-centered AND nurture capable, curious, and conscientious students ready for the academic challenges that lie ahead, please do visit Davis Community School and watch...
Read moreOur fourth grade son loves going to school every day at Davis Community School. He is always happy to go and to be part of an intimate, nurturing and engaged learning environment. He's become increasingly confident in his ability to pursue his own curiosity and dive deeply into his learning, then share his new knowledge with his classmates and teacher(s). The encouragement he feels to develop his unique interests as well as his independence as a learner has allowed him to grow in all ways, academically as well as personally. As a family, we appreciate how responsive the teachers and administrators are to parent and student ideas and concerns, and how well they communicate about our child's experience. Davis Community School is a very creative, caring and safe community in which...
