Food is usually pretty good and the pool table is in better condition than some other bars.
We tried to play some tonight but the people playing before us were unruly and volatile. Things seemed okay at first. We asked to get in the queue and patiently waited until we were told it was our turn. We got called up and started our game.
There must have been some miscommunication but it was completely blown out of proportion very quickly. Not everyone plays by the same rules in pool but a women in their group was extremely upset to the point of being super verbally aggressive. We tried to make things right by leaving 4 quarters for them because we felt like we messed up their game or something. We wanted to just leave peacefully and move to a different location for the night.
As we tried to leave the women followed us out the door yelling and insulting us in strings of words I've never expected to hear. My wife and I didn't feel physically safe so we left in a hurry.
We were really shook. I'm not sure what measures the staff took to handle this other than apologizing to us over the phone when we called to express our concerns. Perhaps the staff could have been more proactive when it comes to crowd control.
We don't plan on returning any time...
Read moreCame in to a sign that said "seat yourself". We waited about 10 minutes then found a menu ourselves. We looked it over and decided what we wanted. Waited another 10 or so minutes. When nobody came by I got up to ask the bartender if the kitchen was open. He indicated with his head "no" and walked away. I can't speak about the food but I can say their communication with customers sitting in the "seat yourself" dining area was not good at all. Rebuttal: We went there because of the reviews. The sign outside says "Bar and Grill". There was no sign on the table stating anything about ordering at the bar. After driving from Elmira, we were really looking forward to a good meal. I, to, am sorry to leave that review, but as someone that owned a restaurant for 7 seven years, I respected criticism and always tried to improve based on...
Read moreKaraoke night on Wednesdays at 9 is my personal favorite time to hit up The Old Post, formerly The Sugarhouse, formerly Franny O’s (it’ll always be Franny O’s to some of us!). The drinks exist, the karaoke works, and the folks are friendly. Sometimes that’s all it really takes. With the advent of the Old Post’s aesthetic comes a gilded pony behind the bar, a slightly improved layout and a mild saloon-type feeling, but I can’t speak to the food. The bar seats have been hard-to-come-by the last three times I’ve visited, but I’ve seen many folks eating and chatting. There’s always one old dude called Leo who’s sure to drop some enthusiastic, if errantly-rhythmic, classic Eminem during karaoke nights, but he’s friendly enough and just wants to sing his heart out.
See ya there, buy me a Switchback and I’ll...
