Far too busy, location is terrible, layout of property/parking lot is awful, as other's have mentioned.
I like that they are so big they will have lots of 50% off items, sushi, various bread/bagels and fried chicken are great.
Sandwiches, finger, half 'overstuffed' half sub, kaiser roll etc are not worth the price at half off or more. Anything else soups, fish meal, eggplant sandwiches, sloppy joe, tunamelt, various pizzas, deserts they have I don't know as I don't see any value there even at 50-70% off.
The meat and cheese on their sub and other sandwiches that make it to being discounted like ham, turkey, chicken and provolone are not 'going to expire' or at the end of a piece that is now too small to slice and sell for full price. They are just expired or old, the beef is maybe 'going to expire'. The turkey/chicken are so dry they fall apart, the ham is flavorless white/grey. Of the 6+ different sandwiches I've gotten there the only cheese that they use is dry old provolone, at least what I got at discount.
The sandwich bead is dry and plain, no oil, no vinegar, no salt, no pepper, no oregano, no basil, no mayo, no mustard just nothing. IF they put lettuce or tomato on it is is a tiny amount and likely old/crushed/wilted. The only difference is for the finger sandwiches they use a sugary sweet bread but it is still plain lacking any seasonings.
I got a couple 'overstuffed' half ham, salami, cheese (provolone) the ham was normal, the salami was a single piece per the 3 sections of the half sub. A single slice of salami for the space on the bread, same with the cheese, the ham is grey/white I've never seen grey/white ham until I bought these discounted sandwiches from here.
That was enough for me to never get them on discount OR fresh as the discount is what they couldn't sell as fresh or to order.
I also can never find italian bread here they have mini loaves but this location never has the advertised shoprite italian loaves I can get at Woodbridge's Shoprite and others. They have plenty of semolina and thin french bread but no slightly shorter fat italian bread. I see they have specialty bakery's version of italian bread but not the shoprite advertised version.
I went to the old location and just like this one also has very bad produce, over ripe products that won't last a week. Potatoes, onions, etc are fine but lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes are awful. I don't know why other shoprites I've gone to Edison, Somerville, Woodbridge etc can have good produce and this one can't.
I really don't like the giant layout, the only good thing is they have lots of discounted sushi and fried chicken that doesn't sell on certain days/times. Both are quality products even at the discounted price/time you get them.
Other than that their produce is bad and the parking lot/location is terrible. Sandwiches they sell are lean on meats, and lacking basic seasonings.
Hope this...
Read moreI've been to this particular ShopRite 3 times since they've opened, and each time has been a horrible experience. First of all, the traffic in and out is ridiculous, on a weekday! I don't know where all these people were shopping before, but with all the other businesses sharing that lot, the traffic inside the lot itself is insane and you may spend more time trying to get out than you did shopping. As for inside the store, the customer service representatives are either weird, rude or have some kind of attitude. If you are so concerned about stealing, put some of the people watching the self-checkout registers on cash registers so people can go to the cash register to purchase their items. Most of us would prefer the cashier to ring up our items instead of standing around, looking over our (some of us) shoulder. One of the employees put a paid sticker on every single item I had, and I had at least seven or eight items. I don't want a paid sticker on every item or any item for that matter. On another occasion, I'm standing in line at the customer service desk. Two customer service representatives are there. One is taking care of the lady in front of me. The other one is doing something at her register on the left of me. So I'm patiently waiting. A couple comes up on the right side of me. Instead of getting in line like everybody else, they're signaling to whoever is behind the customer service desk. The customer service representative that was on the left of me passed by me and the other customer service representative, to take care of the couple that just walked up on the right side. Then to add insult to injury she took care of somebody else who came behind them. I'm just waiting and watching. She had the person the second person walk past me again back over to her station and completed their transaction. Then she looked up at me and said, "how can I help you?" How can you help me? So I asked her," you didn't see me standing here when you took care of the first couple?" They don't have to ever worry about me coming back to that store again. There's a Stop& Shop, Walmart, Aldi's and Target, all in the same area. I'm not asking for "privilege" but if I am spending my money in your store, I expect respect...
Read moreWent here for the first time to pick up my Shop Rite From Home order at around 4PM on a Friday. I had to grab a few more items before picking up my order. When I arrived at the counter, I put my things down and was standing literally in front of two women for about a minute before one of them finally acknowledged/asked me if I had an order to pick up. An older woman with short black hair and a younger women. I gave them my name and the young woman proceeded to grab the bags and place them in a cart. While she was doing that, instead of the older woman ringing up the items I grabbed earlier, she proceeded to chat with another employee. After the younger woman finishes carting my order, thankfully two other employees came and one them rings up my extra items...all while the older woman with the short black hair is still chatting with the employee.
As for the store itself, feels like it's about the same size as the Shop Rite in South Plainfield. Shelves were well stocked. Some of the aisle were the same layout as the South Plainfield store. The only plus I noticed was there were a lot more check-out and self check-out bays than the South Plainfield store. Also noticed a good amount of employees, some of them were just standing around observing.
Parking lot traffic is awful! You've got the traffic from the surrounding stores and traffic from Chick-Fil-A. There was no way I was exiting back onto Stelton Road on a late Friday afternoon, so I had to drive all the way down the other end to exit onto Hadley Road.
Will probably be not coming back to this location and just sticking to the South...
